Doesn’t help that they are located where they are. Samford seems to be doing well.
Samford is a beautiful campus and has the advantage of being located in the affluent city of Homewood, which is adjacent to Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills. Years ago, my son visited there when considering colleges. As part of the visit, we went to a football game. I remember looking around and seeing what appeared to be a 3 to 1 girl to guy ratio in the stands. I remember thinking he was making a mistake not to choose Samford based on the ratio alone.

Watching the Frisco Bowl last night and the North Texas school spot came on. They mentioned they have 279 degree majors. Seems ridiculous for any school to try to cater to every whim degree.

county, city and states should only give the % of money that matches county, city and state resident students that go there.

When people finally woke up to the fact that i would say 1/4 to 1/2 of all degree programs at universities will do absolutely nothing to help you get a job, people stopped wanting to get them.
So what used to be something people were proud to go to school for has become a situation that people see that the effort and time put in to get a degree in a bull shite degree program isn’t worth it

But the HBCs continue to be funded.
Knoxville College graduated someone last year or the year before, even though no classes had been offered. Locally UT says they will work with KC, there's a boards of important people, but the condemned buildings are past the point of repair.
Mother Nature may solve the problem that no one else dares address.

All I know about Birmingham Southern is that my cousin went in as a devout Christian and came out a flaming pink haired liberal.

Birmingham-Southern President Daniel Coleman is seeking $30 million in state funding for the private college - $12.5 million from funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Act and $17.5 million from the Education Trust Fund.
Public funding for a bougee private college that catered to Alabama's elite Jaxons and Braxtons?
They can frick themselves.

Good, we need more of these schools to close. I know LA has too many colleges.
Louisiana basically has just 8 private universities and only 3 outside of New Orleans. If any need to close its publics.

I imagine many colleges, that have seen the immediate surrounding areas that turned to shite over the decades, are in peril.
That's not a very bullish call on LSU
j/k - LSU will be fine.
But yeah, small college right down the road from Ensley. Who's going to send their kid there in 2022?

The unintended consequences of systemic racism. HBCUs were started to try to address the need for educational opportunities for a discriminated class of people. There is a certain irony to all of this. The integration and acceptance of African Americans into all colleges and universities have probably spelled the eventual end of most HBCUs.

Over the next 10 years, I bet we see a lot of small private liberal arts colleges shutting down.
Which will be a good thing. We won't be indoctrinating as many trust-fund radicals if they do.

A lot of over paid professors are not going to be happy about this.

They'll just transition to being indoctrinated at the publics or the ivy league schools

Why not request funds from the Methodist Church?

What does a small college need a EXTRA $30k+ per student for? That seems like an awful lot of money that doesn't need to be spent.
