Birmingham is destroying all the good they’ve built up the past few years.

I think they got the DC guy to come paint black lives matter on a street downtown too

AL.com has been giddy over the entire situation and especially the vandalism with the yellow paint downtown.

because the man incited a riot. I don’t know what’s confusing about that.

I'd never have thought I'd say this in a million years, but I really wish they had Richard Bell back.

The whole city of Bham is basically one big memorial to the civil rights struggle. Why did we need to paint it on a street? Guessing no one took a look at the city's budget shortfall before making this decision?

what's funny is i bet a lot of these democrats who are close to having to run for office again, will take down a few statues and get BLM painted on a few streets right before the election. And they'll likely win on that fact alone regardless of having done absolutely nothing the past few years except run their cities into the ground.

Yeah bro, I am the one who has a nerve struck, totally not you(who seems pretty fricking unhinged in your attitude towards Birmingham, and even started a whiny thread about it)

News reported it was painted by volunteers, with approval from the city.

There was no chance of a conviction.
Think about what a jury of 12 people drawn from the city of Birmingham (not its suburbs) might look like.
Now consider the odds that all twelve of those people would have voted to convict this guy for inciting others to remove a monument to the Confederacy...
which the city of Birmingham had itself been trying to remove for years...
after he gave a speech asking people not to destroy businesses or historical Civil Rights landmarks...
the night before the monument was removed by the same city that was charging him.

I read the Ham Dept of Transportation was doing it. Funny how they can spend time and money on this garbage yet some streets need tanks to traverse from all the holes.

Randall Woodfin has been accused of ignoring the residents that voted him in favor of big business that has actually restored the city. He needed to do something to throw them a bone.

According to this article it was a joint effort with the city and volunteers.
Doesn't seem like a huge expenditure, and likely came out of the Streets Fund, which for most cities is usually flush with cash. Not sure if that is the case with Birmingham. I know Woodfin has made re-paving neighborhood/residential streets a priority, so it's possible he's dwindled those reserves.
