What is cut off in the above image, is the net pay for 84 hours worked came out to $639

Sort of torn on this one, was salary not disclosed before accepting the job?

quote:

DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (WAFB) - Looking to spark some conversation. That’s the goal of one new billboard in Denham Springs along Highway 16, depicting just how little police officers in the city are paid. The billboard was put up by the Denham Springs Union of Police in the hopes of getting a response from the city’s administration. “It definitely makes people more aware of how little they’re [officers] being paid,” said Madison Sanders, a Denham Springs resident. The extremely candid billboard reads, "Denham Springs, among the worst pay for a police officer." It shows the harsh reality of net pay for officers with the Denham Springs Police Department, displaying a typical officer’s pay after two weeks of work, once taxes, health insurance, and more are taken out.

I never understand bitching about salary for a job where the pay is widely published, made known to you, and agreed upon before hire.

Now if they are lacking pay raises for years, THAT I can understand bitching about. Not sure if that’s happened here.

Edit: also, when a category called “Other” is larger than the taxes, you define that shite.

But they also get paid for extra duty and bribes, this is a bit misleading.

$445 for healthcare?

On one hand, I would hope that's the cost for a whole family, but on the other, I would hope someone with a wife and kids isn't happy making $16.42/hour and would want to find a new job.

4 hours of OT for a cop? Those are rookie numbers. $445 in medical means the guy must have like a wife and multiple kids because even today that’s a lot.

How long has this person been on the force?

A police officer is an entry level position for people without a degree.

If they are a 10 yet vet, then yeah I can see the problem.

I seriously doubt thats a post certified officers paycheck.

Thats probably some admin persons paycheck. Only 84 hours in 2 weeks?

Agreed. But quite a few cops are guys that just got out of the military. 8 years of army or something and starting a new career, would fit the bill here.

Wow. If true, that's sad. My nanny makes almost that much hourly.

That's probably FSA/401k stuff.

And I think they along with EBRSO have a valid gripe b/c they are not paid 1.5 for OT they are paid straight OT.

BRPD gets 1.5 and other premium pay codes after 40 hrs/week, 12 hrs/day.

It used to be worth it when you could walk into the wrong apartment and kill the guy who lives there and get away with it. With the new anti cop culture that sort of thing is changing.

That's not uncommon for a family plan on PPO(very low out of pocket, copays and stuff).

$1,000 per month for employee-sponsored health insurance. That must be some high quality coverage.
