Coloumb's bill to let non StG people in EBR vote on incorporation.

Not an accident the Mayor's email about a 20% budget cut made the news today.

StG peeps better pack that committee room before the EBR ringers take all the seats.

I live in BR too and hope St George passes. It'll keep more people from moving to AP and LP

They already do. That’s why we want our own city.

Continually desperate actions in an attempt to throw a Hail Mary is going to make this pass in a landslide and possibly take JBE out in the crossfire.

Follow-up question - If they block incorporation of areas of a parish, what is to stop unincorporated areas from forming a new parish completely?

This is only applicable for parishes with a population of over 400,000.

The way it is worded could likely be considered a bill of attainder and thus be unconstitutional.

Depending on the wording, it applies either solely to EBR or to EBR and Jefferson.

If it solely applies to EBR, it likely ends up a very expensive legal battle lost by the state and city of BR.

I think that's the point. St. George seems to be putting a large portion of the tax revenue for the city without seeing the benefits. They feel that Baton Rouge doesn't care about them so they have made a move. If BR wanted to keep them, BR should have made a move first.

BR overplayed their hand and told them to do what they thought were impossible tasks because they didn’t want to give up any money or control.

And now those same people are shitting themselves because it is coming to pass.

We don't want to leave. It' like we've been giving our paycheck to our crazy Aunt every week. She takes it all and decides how much we get back. We've noticed that a good portion of it gets spent on weed and trips to the nail salon with her friends and we've just decided to keep the whole thing ourselves and buy what we need.

It's ridiculous to try to change the rules at the 11th hour, but that is Louisiana politics for you.

That's the point, unless you are in the unincorporated area you shouldn't have any say in the incorporation of that area into a new city.

Baton Rouge has no one to blame for this but themselves. People are growing tired of being taxed and not seeing any improvements from their tax dollar.

I think it would have to go through a similar legislative process.

St. George passing will help keep Baton Rouge and EBR from turning into the next Jackson, MS.
