I live in Monterey, Angelina and Chicago Mills are both ultimately owned by Gates. They are huge tracts of farm land that I assume are used for some type of tax write off/credit. I’m sure he knows he owns it but I’m sure he has very little, if any, involvement in the actual farming business. And to the poster that mentioned wanting to lease it, no you don’t lol, there is very little deer habitat and the duck blinds are going for $12.5k last I heard and the duck hunting here has been terrible for the last 5+ years. I guess if you wanted to ride around and shoot hogs at night then it might be of interest to you

Well earlier it wasn't hyperbole...

I guess that all changed when you appeared to be a wacko to so many. Then it became hyperbole.

Isn't Ted Turner the biggest private citizen land owner in the US?

my own speculation on why Gates is buying up farmland has something to do with creating an alternate, plant based food supply. Think "cows are climate change. Don't eat beef".
Or marijuana farms......

It was hyperbole before you even asked if I was fear mongering:

Oh Jesus Christ this is pure insanity
It was a hyperbolic statement because I don’t believe Soros (and perhaps Gates, et al) just makes investments ‘just to invest’ anymore.
It would be more viable to purchase half of Manhattan than crap land in Louisiana.

Thanks for all the details

They’re gonna put some Section 8 housing there and the tenants can farm the land.

I think Gates passed him up several years ago

Farmland + Timber + Mitigation Banking = Profits on profits

Lol. What kind of details? It’s a gigantic farm that grows the usual row crops and rice (which they actually farm on a row too now). He’s responsible for the management and production of many thousands of acres of it. That’s all I got.

That dumbass does that every time this comes up. Shows up to post that same one line and nothing else.
Cool starry bra.

Why don't they give the land to black people or native Americans?

because we already have enough casinos and "detail" shops

The Howard Hughes Foundation still owns a TON of land. I live on the Potomac in NOVA and the foundation owns a lot of the riverfront acreage here. I'd be interested to see what it owns across the US.

sure. but while we’re at it we should also strip voting rights from those: who don’t pay taxes and/or don’t have a valid ID. And I would go as far as to strip or pause voting rights from those who haven’t exercised their voting right in 5 years.
That would remove a lot of ignorant voters from the system. And remind them how dumb they are. Cool?

Sure why not

That seems dumb. Live and learn is a real thing. There are plenty of people who didn’t give a shite about politics between the ages of 18-23 who grew up once they entered the real world.

I don’t really see what any of this has to do with this thread but you seem to have decided what my political ideology is just because I’m trying to get dumb people to understand why a billionaire would want to own land.

I forgot to add he is also going to be donating a lot of it, for tax breaks, for the 30 by 30 plan.
