I surveyed a section of it near Deville, was pretty much all soybean. The place was called FARMS, but was an acronym for something. It was all leased and subleased to investors who hired farmers to farm it. I have no idea why he was interested in farm land, but like a lot of people I figured it had something to do with some kind of plant based nutrition program he was pushing, I know he’s into that kind of stuff.

It’s called the continued feminization and pussification of American males one soy latte at a time

Better question—whom is their land man. Would love to lease it to hunt.

He owns farmland all over northeastern LA. It’s farmed just like every other piece of land in this area of the country. He bought because buying land makes sense. And farmland in the delta is about the most sure investment anyone can ever make.

Maybe they’re really, really big fans of Jerry Lee Lewis.

Why did Soros have that in the first place?

Why do y’all not understand why rich people invest in land? It’s one of the safest investments anyone can make. It’s not like they’re down there pulling planters and driving combines. When you have that much money you have to put it somewhere. If you put it in land it’ll almost always be there when you come looking for it.

Gates may be vaguely aware that somewhere in his investment holdings he may own some land, doubt he knows are even cares where it is. 70, 000 acres of Louisiana farmland would be a one line entry among hundreds of pages of assets the Gates own. The firm that manages their investments probably have a few dozen people dedicate solely to their account.

I have nothing to add to this thread except to say that I grew up visiting my grandmother who lived in Monterey and I fished in bayou Cocodrie a lot.

Gates is the largest owner of farmland in the US at like 250k acres. He’s definitely more than “vaguely aware” that he owns some farmland but it’s not like he’s riding around in his F250 checking on the farms or anything.

I totally understand that - but I think of Soros as an underhanded sneaky kind of infiltrator with ulterior motives

I can’t look past the fact that he does rotten things, and won’t accept this land purchase as ‘just an investment’ - like he wants to do something drastic with the Mississippi River or something.

A) it’s a great investment.

B) it must be pretty cool to fly over 250k acres in a private jet and point down saying “that’s mine”

Gates passed up Turner for the largest land owner in the US a while back. There's a very large piece of land near where I hunt in Tensas parish that he just purchased. The previous owners were Oprah Winfrey and some other Hollywood frickers.. That's the story anyway.
Id love to see a map of the US with all of his holdings.

Amen.

When Gates first bought Angelina the story was he and Oprah bought it and they were going to farm rice on the entire farm for exporting to and feeding people in Africa.
