Nobody coming in either direction

You’d bunk with modern technology, smart traffic lights would be common place. Sensors should be able to auto adjust

In LA it's a fact of life. I started through an intersection this week and nearly caught the cab of a big rig coming through the light, long after it had gone red on him. And he had apparently floored it in a poor attempt to beat the light because he was also speeding.

better solution though would be to adjust the light programming so that it's flashing yellow in the primary travel direction and flashing red in the secondary direction during low volume times

On of the best parts about Texas where they do this.

If you have to wait 90 seconds it’s pretry worthless. Also where do you draw the line at low traffic or not

Isn't that what flashing yellow and red lights are for?

I do this now. Always have. I'll wait 30 seconds at a deserted light, after that ease on through.

Yeah same here. Early morning and coming out of a neighborhood onto a major road. No one in sight either direction,,,its a stop sign.

That seems like a long red light. Granted I have never timed a red light but 90 seconds seems like a long time.

Weird. If I'm at a traffic light for 90 second and no traffic it would already have turned green

Late night, early morning it can certainly be pretty empty. It's a long road. Goes from the design district to Preston at the state line.

Drivers must stop for at the light for at least 90 seconds before they are allowed to proceed if it is still red
So one and half minutes before running said red light. Are there really that many lights set for over 1.5 minutes change?

For a state that has very strict alcohol and drug laws, Utah surprisingly has very high speed limits and now this!

Wouldn't it be safer just to turn the red light into a blinking yellow for the road most travelled and a red for the road least travelled? Someone needs to tell Utah we now have the capability to do this with computer chips and such.

I like this. I got pulled over in Colorado late at night in the city of Rifle for running through a red light. The sensor didn't pick me up, nobody else was on the road to trip it and I eventually had to run through it after sitting for several minutes. Cop was nearby watching and pulled me over. Let me go without a ticket at least. I think it was a trainee cop who was practicing.

Will be funny if one day Utah’s population explodes and they have a ton of traffic and they can’t get this damn law off the books.

Several states have a version of this. Comes in handy for motorcycles that don’t have the weight/metal to trip the sensors to make the light change.
