The kids and their friends use the pool almost every day in the summer, nice to keep them close to home and occupied.

I don't fish enough anymore to own a boat but still miss having one.

Luckily I have friends with boats to scratch that itch every month or so.

Waste or not, if one thinks a boat or pool is a waste, then I feel that person can't afford one or the other or just to dam cheap in the first place. Life is just to short living under a rock.

A boat would be a waste of time/money for my wife.

A pool would be a waste of time/money for me.

Oh I’m all about living your life...I was just pointing out the use of “investment” and pool together.

Which is a bigger waste of money? An 80k boat or an 80k pool?

How many people spend $80K on a pool? The average cost of a an in ground, gunite pool including a surrounding patio is less than half of that. In South Florida, the ROI on a pool is 10-15%. If you own a $80K boat, you have to factor in the cost of insurance and storage....unless you live on the water - then you pay through the nose for owning a property with ocean access.

As a investment in one or the other, look at it as a investment of entertainment. No more, no less.

Depends on where you live

In DFW the growth has driven up the prices of pools. Starting price is 45-50k. I got a quote on a basic 14,000 gallon play pool with hot tub for 78. Never ended up doing it

Took companies 2 weeks to even call me back because they are so backed up with jobs. One of the companies I used said they were on pace to build over 300 pools in just Collin County last year.

I love my pool.

80k is retarded for both items.
You can get both for half that.

I suppose you will want to sell your house one day. A pool could be a liability when the day comes to sell your house

Travel sports for kids is probably a bigger waste of time and money than either of these

Is there anything that is not a waste of money according to the OT

Going on vacations are a waste of money

Playing golf is a waste of money

Joining a CC Club is a waste of money

Riding in a Mardi Gras parade is a waste of money

Hunting and fishing is a waste of money

Going to a sporting event is a waste of money
