I feel like carnies would help the virus mutate into something apocalyptic, so maybe a good move.

Lame, maybe. But a huge financial blow, anyway. A lot of people make a chunk of their living at that fair every year.

It's pretty fun outside of the OU-Texas and the HBCU game weekends. Fantastic people watching.

True, and I was looking forward to the "Guess Your Temp" Covid screening booth replacing the weight guessing game.

Yeah this is a big blow to a lot of farmers/ranchers. A lot of them work all year for the livestock shows.

Going to be a lot of carny companies filing BK if they haven't already. WI cancelled it's state farm a couple months ago I think and it's not until August.

My county canceled the county fair as well in Sept.

shite. I knew this was going to happen after the 83rd East Texas Yamboree in Gilmer was cancelled last week which is also in October.

You say this in jest but the food stand permit holders rely HEAVILY on those 3 weeks. Like, when you get a permit you do anything to keep it. Some only work a very very short portion of the year because it's so lucrative and now that money is gone. We're talking 6 figure incomes.

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN IN 2021

quote:

After extensive consideration of the current landscape related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the health and safety of all fairgoers, staff, business partners, and overall community, the State Fair of Texas Board of Directors has voted to cancel the 2020 State Fair of Texas.

“This was an extremely tough decision. The health and safety of all involved has remained our top priority throughout the decision-making process,” said Gina Norris, board chair for the State Fair of Texas. “One of the greatest aspects of the Fair is welcoming each and every person who passes through our gates with smiles and open arms. In the current climate of COVID-19, there is no feasible way for the Fair to put proper precautions in place while maintaining the Fair environment you know and love. While we cannot predict what the COVID-19 pandemic will look like in September, the recent surge in positive cases is troubling for all of North Texas. The safest and most responsible decision we could make for all involved at this point in our 134-year history is to take a hiatus for the 2020 season.”

Have you ever been?

The stables and pens are completely filled with good ole working baw families who bring their livestock in from all over the state. This will suck for them.

Exactly. People can joke about the carneys and shite but this is hurting some actual hard-working individuals as well.

Someone should start their own state fair. Perfect opportunity now.

Cut the state out of the process
