re: Biden's Energy Secretary to Oil Industry: "Adapt or Die"

It will be a slow process, but there is no denying that in 100 or so years we will have other, more efficient ways of energy. Oil and gas will still be needed in some capacity but it’s just how things progress.

Can we just shut off the gas to these people for next winter and let the states that are voting these zealots into office experience the "carbon-free" environment they desire so badly? They are more than happy to tell workers in the oil industry to "learn to code" or "learn to build solar panels".
Maybe the gas and oil producing states should tell them, "learn to set your thermostats to 54°".
The market is shifting. We will still have oil as a source of fuel and other products at the end of this century but it will no longer be the dominant product it is today.
College students would be crazy to start a degree program in Petroleum Engineering. Its better to go with one of the trinity (chem, mech, ee)...
The Oil and Gas industry is trending in the same direction coal did in the early 20th century. Even with Republican gov'ts the US demand for oil has waned in the last 2 decades
The Energy Secretary is not wrong by saying "Adapt or Die"
Another cliche to use would be "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it"... Don't let Louisiana slip into the same state of affairs states like West Virginia finds themselves because it held on to coal production for too long

May as well shut off ac to Georgia this summer too since they went blue. And Texas too since they’re next to go blue
I bet they would work a little harder at exposing election fraud if this happened

The same companies producing energy now will be the ones harnessing this energy. The titans of the O&G energy era haven't been sitting on their hands.
Shell is currently a partner in the Mayflower project off the Atlantic Seaboard. BP, Statoil, ENI, all have renewable interests.
Not sure about Exxon or Chevron.

Except there are tons of products that require oil and don’t really have a substitute. And “green” energy isn’t very green itself. It also needs a lot of oil to work

How obtuse can you be as a government employee? The reason the upstream sector is in the current situation is because of technology. With one well you can drill horizontally and produce 5-10 zones, which would normally require multiple drills, pads, artificial lift, and monitoring. Extrapolate that out and you see a reduced amount of workers required everywhere.
What part of adaptation is the US restricting oil production while importing foreign oil? This is currently happening in California and will spread to other refineries if you don’t keep up with current energy demand.

Im gonna hold 2 closet my vest. I might still take one.
I know Patterson is looking for mwd and dir. Guess I wasn't on their radar. Baker also has remote mwd jobs posted right now. Work from home. Pay probably sucks though
Schlumberger called also for an RSS position.

Don’t they use the left over, crap residuals to make these products? The overwhelming majority goes to energy is what I understood. Or at least the good stuff.

They want it to be hard, and they want the energy companies to fail.
That's what commies do.

Not sure why oil companies have so many defenders. Several are starting to adapt on their own.
Is it really adapting on their own or is it adapting to massive government disincentive of petro and massive incentive for “clean”?
To be clear I am nowhere close to being in an energy field so I have no dog in this fight other than hating government intrusion

We already have it.
If the environmental left hadn't fought so hard vs Nuclear power decades ago, Climate change would never have been an issue.
Micro reactors and Thorium reactors are the future. Not windmills, not hydro, not solar.
It's about time Progressives actually considered progress.
