The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District Board of Commissioners Monday voted to end a partnership with Church of the Highlands. Commissioners cited recent controversy with Pastor Chris Hodges and social media activity.

“Commissioners agreed that Pastor Hodges’ views do not reflect those of HABD and its residents; and Hodges’ values are not in line with those of HABD residents. HABD and Campus of Hope staff will continue to work with other faith-based organizations in the community to identify resources that will replace the services that were provided by COTH,” HABD said in a statement Monday afternoon.

The pastor (Chris Hodges of Church of the Highlands) liked a Charlie Kirk social media post in the past, and someone called him out on it. He gave a public apology to his church on May 31st.

This is fricking psycho la la land, folks. We’re ending volunteer work from a church because the pastor liked a social media post a while back? And maybe you’re thinking, “What if the pastor liked a post that called black people the n word or supported something awful like the holocaust?”

Well...

One of the posts, according to AL.com, shows two photos — one of President Trump standing next to Muhammad Ali and Rosa Parks with the caption “The racist Donald Trump in the 1980s,” and the other Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam with two men wearing blackface and a KKK costume with the caption “Progressive Leftist Ralph Northam in the 1980s.”

Another screenshot showed former President Barack Obama playing golf beneath a quote from Michelle Obama urging people to stay home except for essential activities. Another screenshot shows Hodges liking a photo of Kirk donating blood above the sentence, “We all must do our part to defeat China Virus.”

I'm seriously considering deleting all of my social media accounts and going to live as a monk making furniture in the mountains. This world is garbage.

Here is the problem. People are so conditioned to capitulating the moment someone is “offended” that it breeds cowardice. People no longer have the courage to say something and stand by it. Drew Brees for example positions his stance on kneeling behind the bravery of his relatives in WW2. However, when he’s called upon to be brave and stand behind his statements, he cowers in fear and apologizes out of fear of what it could cost him both personally and financially. His grandfather’s stood tall in the face of fear even with the very real possibility that it could cost them their lives. Not money, not friendships or endorsements, but literally life itself.

This pastor is no different. He liked the post, so stand up and own it. Have the balls to explain to people why you liked the posts. Don’t grovel and apologize to the congregation like a weak bitch. It just makes those that would stand up for you hesitate to stick their neck out for you because you folded. If you won’t defend yourself, then don’t expect me to.

We lived without social media in the pre social media just fine. The more people leave the more advertising dollars they lose.

I doubt anyone affiliated with the Birmingham Housing Authority is conservative.
