aiting for the riots about cultural appropriation
quote:
The black influence on country music starts with the banjo, which often conjures the hazy image of a white pastoral South. But the instrument is a descendant of West African lutes, made from gourds, that were brought to America by slaves and which became a central part of slave music and culture in the South.

Country and pop music are now 100% indistinguishable from each other

But it originated from black slaves lol
No it didn’t. The banjo is just an instrument. Not a style of music. 2 white people invented the Hammond organ, it doesn’t mean they invented gospel music. And the acoustic guitar came from the Spanish and is infinitely more featured in country music anyway. The banjo was made by slaves but is more of a complementary piece than a foundational one in country music, especially now.
If you look hard enough you can “trace” something back to anything you want.

The Hawaiians came up with the pedal steel guitar.

Spoken like someone who never was discriminated. Nice job white man
Go cry to someone who cares. Oh and by the way, just because someone is being an a-hole does not mean they’re being racist. I’m sure you’ve got issues discerning the difference.

If you really think about who were the people farming and ranching back in the day…. I feel black Americans probably deserve a bigger piece of country culture
Ummm dude do you even read what you write? If you changed every black celebrity to a white celebrity or swap black for white in your statements, you would be labeled a racist! Yet you can get away with it….why?

The violin came from the British isles.

In the 90’s was told “you deserve to be ranked #1 but Division needs a black officer to be ranked #1 since General Mundy got ambushed by 60 Minutes”. Does that count as discrimination?

not disputing that man - I agree.
I was replying to him saying why it was a big deal because he compared Charley to Beyonce, especially in reference to the quote of it being accomplished by a black woman.

Musicologists have put forth examples of that 4th-century BC technology, looking at engraved images that have survived. The earliest image showing a lute-like instrument came from Mesopotamia prior to 3000 BC.[11] A cylinder seal from c. 3100 BC or earlier (now in the possession of the British Museum) shows what is thought to be a woman playing a stick lute.[11][12] From the surviving images, theorists have categorized the Mesopotamian lutes, showing that they developed into a long variety and a short.[13] The line of long lutes may have developed into the tamburs and pandura.[14] The line of short lutes was further developed to the east of Mesopotamia, in Bactria, Gandhara, and Northwest India, and shown in sculpture from the 2nd century BC through the 4th or 5th centuries AD.[15][16][17]

This board is absolutely obsessed with race.
Yesterday we had the lizzo thread, today a Beyonce thread is already at 8 pages.
