USNWR rankings a terrible. In academia it’s AAU status or what Carnegie ranking is the university.

LSU isn't a member

Ole Miss is where all the kids at my high school went when they didn't qualify for LSU or ULL...so definitely not there.

US News ranks Ole Miss #106, LSU #153, and Miss St #206.
Well the AP ranks LSU #11, Ole Miss #20 and State isn’t ranked.

I did my undergrad at State and my graduate degrees from LSU. I have worked in higher education for 20 years.
I would rank them:
1a. LSU
1b. Ole Miss
3. Mississippi State
If you just looking for a general feel, LSU probably has the best prestige of the three, but they aren't leaps and bounds ahead of Ole Miss. State has problems attracting high level faculty because the schools in Starkville are so shitty. Oxford has great public schools and its a factor.
If you want to dive in to specific programs, all have their strengths.
For example, Mississippi State's Engineering school is highly regarded nationally and 1 out of 3 meteorologists have a degree from State's program. State also has a really good Landscape Arch/sports turf management program.
Ole Miss has a world class Accounting school (Im talking better than some Ivy League programs). Because of this, their finance and business school is really good as well.

Every single institution of higher learning in Mississippi is inferior to LSU and even our other ancilliary universities.
Mississippi simply cannot get it together in any level

MSU mechanical and aerospace engineering is a shite show right now.
They had a mass exodus of professors and the last remaining good professor just died of a freak health condition.
It’s truly awful in those departments right now.

LSU, State, & Ole Miss all have a specific program(s) that they're known for but I'd say that LSU probably has the best reputation overall.
Average ACT for LSU is around 26-27 while Ole Miss & State are around 24-25 so the quality of student at each school is pretty comparable.
The Times Higher Education ranks universities across the world and they have LSU in the 501-600 range and Mississippi State in the 801-1000 range. Couldn't find Ole Miss.

LSU is about 3X the size of the other two. LSU is now a woke factory printing diplomas for whoever can take out a loan (anyone) without a focus.
I’m one of them.
I’d choose one of the other two and focus on one or two fields.
That’s sad coming from an LSU grad.

They have a good agriculture school right? It would probably be best to go there for that.

It would be good if you can't get into LSU or MSU.

Eh, one could make a case LSU is on par with Arkansas, Bama, and Kentucky and Ole Miss, Miss st. Missou and USC and Tennessee slightly better
