There is zero (0) way you are a libertarian with what you just posted. I can sympathize with let go employees, just like I can sympathize with people addicted to drugs, but that doesn't change my libertarian view points.

I worked hard through high school, graduated LSU with a business degree and delayed my gratification. I'm sorry these trashy people saw dollar signs right out of high school and went chasing instead of looking at the far distant future.
We purchased a townhome within our means in South Denver, got a new Subaru Forester XT around $26,000 instead of a $40,000+ vehicle, and we live within a budget even though our household income is well into 6 figures. I don't feel bad for people only blame others when they fail to do the right things in life. Louisiana has an incredible gift in TOPS and so many people waste the opportunity at a FREE degree in pursuit of quick dollars.

What a moronic statement
A degree doesn't guarantee anyone future employment these days and outside of being a Dr or something the ROI isn't what it used to be.
As pointed out, there have ben plenty of people with degrees that have been laid off but keep patting yourself on the back.

I have a business degree and I work in the oilfield. I wouldn't get all high and mighty about a business degree.

No, a degree doesn't guarantee employment. It does provide a lot more opportunity in the world over someone without it. When the state of Louisiana is willing to provide a free education to you, the ROI can only be positive. Sure, a business degree may not hold much worth in Lafayette or Baton Rouge, but they are still valued in other parts of the country.

I don't work offshore and almost everyone I work with has a college degree. I get your point though.

I wouldn't say the average person is gloating about it. I think the typical person hates to see this kind of trend in our economy and so many people lose jobs. The problem most people have is that every industry can suffer the same kind of downturns as the oil and gas industry.

I never said college educated professionals don't work in O&G and aren't being affected. Who is going to have a harder time finding a job, someone with an Accounting degree and Accounting experience, or someone who's only skill on a resume is oil production?
The fact of the matter is that a college degree opens up more professional opportunities outside of the oil and gas industry where as a roughneck's skill sets are so limited that they have a very hard time leaving a shrinking industry.

I had TOPS. Covered tuition, not fees. Still have $40k in loan debt. Sometimes I feel like I should have went to trade school and been a pipefitter, welder, or electrician. Much better ROI IMHO.
