to put it simply you are just too frickin old for that
you need to be young to put up with being in 150 degree attics 6 hrs of your 10-12 hour work day
go to class and learn the trade, then hire a crew of young guys to do the work for you and you sit in the office running the business scheduling work and doing the book keeping work
if you dont want to be the boss, then learn to code and go into the IT industry, being a HVAC tech at your age is about the worst kind of work environment there is. sitting outside adding freon to units is only 10% of the job and 90% is done in miserable conditions. i did it myself for 35 years so i know.

Maybe reach out to a local community college or HVAC company

Go to a vocational school. Work for an HVAC company for 5 years and then start your own business once you know the ins and outs of running an HVAC company. There are a lot of things like pricing, new installs, change outs, service, etc that you'll need to understand if you're looking to work on your own at some point.
THIS.....same thing for plumbers. The need for service industry work such as HVAC and plumbing is constantly in high demand and is something that just can't be replaced by some automated machinery.

Serious question. How are you with computers and electrical? You may want to consider the building controls side of things. I did 2 years in high school a five year apprenticeship program with the local plumbers and pipe fitters union hall. Then was a tech and got hurt and now I’m in the office. It’s a hot and feast famine type of world as a tech.

It was a $15K job for which you charged me $20K. Its 1145am. I will see you at 1pm. Oh, and I need you outta here by Friday. And for the love of Christ, avoid the fricking plumber. He has asked me 28 times to ask you why you took his tape measure on the Camino St job.

HVAC starter pack:
1/2 ton Chevy, preferably 2001 or earlier.
Ex girlfriend tattoo on forearm.
Crushed up, week old monster energy cans on passenger floor board.
Smoke camels.
Truck bed has 2 sawzalled window unit coils for future recycling.
Shoe in, if you fit the above profile.

Apply to be a maintenance technician in the apartment industry. Be sure your resume has a list of maintenance you can do. You will follow senior supervisors that will teach you and they will guide you how to get your HVAC card.

1. Go to work with a HVAC company that allows you to do side jobs.
2. Buy a yeti cooler and keep with full of natty lite
4. Do as many side jobs in rich neighborhoods as possible
6. 50% of the time it'll be a bad capacitor (which will cost you $20 and 5 minutes), charge $150 and make it sound more complicated.
5. Give good looking single moms more than one way to pay
3. Profit.

Kill someone, go to Angola, and take their HVAC course.

why the frick would you want to go from being an operator to a hvac technician? one is a way way better job than the other....and its the one you already have. not to mention the retirement benefits especially with 20 years in
and sorry if you have been an operator last 20 years, you wont last 1 summer climbing in hot arse attics. prolyl not even a full week.
