One thing I'm not crazy about has been my sub's bracelet.....compared to the Omega divers, it loses.
Speaking of chunky (and under the $2k OP's target), I have the Marathon JSAR with an upgraded clasp rubber strap. Thing is like wearing a hammer on my wrist: huge.

Is it one of the newer ceramic bezels? I want a sub at one point, much prefer the case size of the 5 digit models, but the bracelets on the newer models is incredible
Glidelock crushes Omega IMO

Holy shite son. Superb. One of my favorite watches.

I got rid of my Sub because mine had hollow end links and they jangled. I had the last year of those end links (2000). If I had known I would've sprung for a newer one or a SD 16600. I also sent it to Hong Kong to get rid of the "stretch". Best $200 I've spent in relation to a watch.

Omega lost the script when they introduced the 8500 models with display backs on Planet Oceans. A 2000 ft dive watch doesn't need a display back - it made the watch sit really awkwardly on the wrist. They have improved the bracelets recently with micro adjustments, but yes, the Glidelock is the industry standard. My next watch will be a (discontinued) 116600.

I have one and it's great. And the strap smells like vanilla which is awesome.

No. As a matter of fact, I own a Rolex GMT II Pepsi, Panerai 233 and 526, and a Cartier Tank. Yourself?

Give him the money. He’ll need it for bills while he’s looking for a job.

Rolex went from the worst bracelets to the best in a pretty short time.
They had serious issues with the earlier sub bracelets and especially the oyster bracelet with regards to stretch. It would get to the point that you needed an entirely new bracelet at some point. They had to tighten that game up because that's unacceptable.

I'm not sure why you thought what he said was stupid?

Because I've never bought a watch because I thought it would give me "status." I buy them because I personally love the way they look and appreciate their mechanical nature. That's it.

Nice pragmatic status stand

I actually like the 8500 movement models, I have 5 of them in various watches. The movement is excellent and I don't find them to be too thick and they sit fine on my wrist BUT I do have a thing for chunky divers as mentioned.
The Omegas are on the second row.

I live in the 415 trailer park in Port Allen. It is easy to find, I'm in #8, its the FEMA trailer with 5 pits on the porch. Don't judge, it is all I can afford after feeding my watch habit, don't worry though just 112 more monthly payments and the trailer is all MINE.

Not sure what looks like a Snowflake (maybe the VC Corne de Vache on the bottom left) but I don't have any GS currently. There is indeed a PAM448 California though.
