The 518 is gorgeous and pretty much a one of a kind. I love it. As for the 113, I just purchased a 111. I would love a pre-v, but I'm just not there yet. Congrats on your beautiful watch collection. It's something to be proud of.

The $2000 watch should go nicely with poor job prospects, lack of respect people have for attorneys these days, and the $200k in school loans.

Happy Festivus!

Best new is probably a Tag...but honestly, don't count out a Hamilton or Shinola for about half a new Tag.

Omega tends to be double that.

I have the Omega SM...the bond watch...dig the shite out of it...my fave watch I have

Tag, no for me.

Shinola? Come on man. Those things have some cool looks, but they are made by Fossil....no thanks. They have done a great job marketing though.

Not even joking, if you aren't going to go all out and get a true luxury watch, get a $30 Timex Ironman. They're classic, high quality, last forever, and communicate smart, aloof urbanity.

I'll readily admit in this thread that I've been dethroned as the watch guru of the OT. That's an amazing collection. Kuddos Obtuse, you are the man. And you don't just own them, you know and understand them.

Nice try, but you can't dethrone yourself with your alt account. But I'll play along.

Not me. I have kids in college. I can't afford even one of those $40,000 Pateks until I get them off the payroll.

No doubt. Did I see the white gold submariner in there also?

iPhone 8 or X.
I like to keep things simple. I only need one device for time. The cool thing is it makes phone calls too!

Yes, there is a 116619. I always wanted a blue stainless sub and that is the closest they make. You would think that Rolex being owned by a charity would make them a little more socialist but alas they have the capitalism thing pretty much down pat. It also bugs me they only make the ceramic Pepsi bezel GMT in white gold.

My wife calls it the most ridiculous watch in the world. She rolls her eyes every time she sees me with one of them on, the orange stingray strap on the white one doesn't help matters.

I simply can't fathom spending that amount of money on a watch. Maybe I'm just a poor.

Should read:

You would not be alone, fewer and fewer people wear watches. Very few people actually need a watch anymore, we (in the first world) are surrounded by "clocks". Wristwatches and particularly mechanical wrist watches are an anachronism. A $10 Walmart Casio keeps better time than even the most expensive mechanical watches. Some people like the technology and workmanship that goes into these amazing little machines. They are also the only man jewelry that is "acceptable".

Insanely rich people often don't wear watches and those that do often were cheap ones. Jack Bogle wears a $10 watch an investor gave him and Steve Jobs was known to wear two different Seikos and a Baume and Mercier worth less in his terms than a trip to the Coke machine for me.

Watches are a pure luxury good, even the cheap ones, for the vast majority of people. But they still make good heirloom gifts for men or women. However, our grandchildren may simply see them like I see my grandfathers pocket watch, cool but completely useless to me.
