Poison ivy does not cause histamine release, therefore non-drowsy antihistamines do not help the itch... generation 1 antihistamines like benadryl cause sedation and that may help u sleep, so will whiskey. A quick wash with products that remove the oils, otherwise Steroids are the only option.

It was Cortizone or Calamine lotion, but, the local Pharmacy I use makes their own.

It's more effective than the others.

Take mineral salts and put it on a rag, rub the crap out of the poison ivy, it’s gonna hurt doing this but the mineral salts will dry up the ivy

Hot shower with Tecnu, rinse well with while water still hot and then turn it to cold to seal the pores.

I think you jinxed me with this thread. I replied to you, and yesterday weeded the flowerbeds and trimmed the bushes. Sure enough, there was a few sprouts of poison ivy that needed to be pulled. I was handling that shite like it was a chunk of uranium 235. Wore nitrile gloves and immediately took a shower. No rashes, thank GOD!

Boil the bark of a sycamore tree and drink it. Not shitting you. Had an actual MD tell me this. Tried it and it worked.

But keep in mind as I said earlier, I’m extremely allergic and have literally tried everything with seemingly no difference being made in shortening the duration of the rash including bleach, hot water, steroid shots, steroid pills, OTC creams, rubbing alcohol, you name it...
I am also hyper-allergic to it too and have tried literally everything on this thread. The steroid shot and and then daily steroids are the only thing that starts the healing process that being said int still takes 4 days to a week for it to be bearable

One of the best feelings in the world is getting in a really hot shower and running the hot water over the affected area.

Just scratch as hard and long as you can. Then pour some turpentine on it.

You'll forget all about the itching.

Not allergic to poison oak or ivy.

Every other thing in the world breaks me out, though.

Go to the doctor. Gave me a shot and some more powerful cream. Or if you want to save some money, just have a doctor friend prescribe some of the powerful cream.

None of the over-the-counter stuff worked for me.

Wow, this thread won't stop.
OK, I've never actually had PI, must not be allergic as I've been in a lot of woods a lot.
Anyway, everything that bite will bite me. What I found years ago was called Band-Aid,
it's changed names a few times but still works for me.
The most recent name is Extra Strength Benadryl Itch Stopping Gel.
Shite works for me for what itches. Good luck.
