PN:

How long do you plan to keep the vehicle?

People who change vehicles every 2-3 years are different than folks who drive cars until they drop.

Subaru Forester and the Honda Pilot are two good starting points, I've got a '14 Jeep Grand Cherokee coming up on 100k and I've done nothing but change the oil and put gas in it.

Tires and brakes soon.

My wife kept wanting me to drive the Hyundai Sante Fe sport and I kept trying to get her to buy the Acura RDX. I finally caved and drove it. It was so much car for the money we bought the Sante Fe sport. Amazingly good car

I'ma huge fan of my Ford Edge Sport. Lots of tech and over 300hp and gets 27 mpg on the highway. More storage space than the smaller SUVs but still very easy to drive in tight spaces.

ETA: pics...

I just bought a new 2016 Mazda CX-9 for the wife and we both love it. Plenty of room and comes with a 3rd row seat.

Also know quite a few folks with Toyota Highlanders, and all of them seem to be pleased with their purchase.

I thought for the last 10 or 15 years, Mazda has been a monumental POS. Have they changed their stripes?

My 2007 Mazda with almost 200k miles has given me less problems than the wife's 2012 VW Jetta with under 100k miles. I know families that have owned mazdas their entire lives and swear by them.

we just got one for my wife in May.

Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, Hyndai Santa Fe, Ford Escape, Honda Pilot, and Rav4 were all on our radar.

You might also consider the Ford Escape. I'm on my second one.

Those things are giant piles of shite. Had one for a work vehicle for a year.

Subaru Forester, Consumer Reports top-rated small SUV for the past ten years. Consider buying new. The model commands such a high resale value that the difference between new and used is minuscule.

Outback too. Very similar internal volume, arranged a little bit differently; you might find you prefer the driving characteristics or interior of one of them over the other.

This. I have been researching and talking to different people. When I get a new car in the next few months I'm getting a 2017 Subaru Forester XT Touring. Solid vehicle.

ETA Initially I was looking at the Subaru Crosstrek because I like how it looks, but after speaking to some technicians they said just get a Forester. The Crosstrek is a little light on power.

Both of mine have been great. My current has 115,000 miles and I still take it on long trips.
