Greetings OT. Mrs. TLC is in the market for a new vehicle and we have decided to go with a small SUV. Having not bought a car in a long time (her car is 11 years old, my truck is 15 years old), I'm admittedly out of touch with what the different brands offer. She wants something with a smooth ride "that looks cute," and I want something with good safety ratings and a reliable engine. The current favorites are the Honda CR-V and the Mazda CX-5, but I'm open to just about anything. What would y'all recommend?

Kia Sorrento is probably the best for that budget. Plus it has third row seating.

Never heard anyone say anything bad about it.

SO has one and it is very nice for what she (her parents) paid for it.

We've had a honda pilot for 9 years now and have loved it. About to trade in for a new one soon.
Just big enough, but not too small. Has a fold up third seat to fit some extra kids in if needed.

Avoid Chrysler products, don't get a Honda Pilot.

Honda just came out with the HRV which is a bit smaller than the CRV but is also less expensive.

My old lady, no pics, got a used acura mdx last year for right around that price. She seems to really like it.

I was in your same position about a year ago. We went with the ford explorer. It has a third row so you will not have to upgrade for more room. It has all the bells and whistles on the interior for 30k.

Me and my wife are also looking for small SUV under 30k. we were looking at the Jeep Cherokee and Buick Encore. I'm curious about all the replies here though

Mrs. Salmon likes her Ford Escape.

We drove almost of the small SUVs in the market when we were looking for her and it drove the best. The CRV was surprising small on the inside.

Best in the segment.

Encores are nice also, but I'm not sure if they are under 30.

Pretty much what we did - hence the CX5 and the CRV. She isn't a fan of the Subaru aesthetics and I'm not sold on the Mitsubishi reliability. I would consider any of the other Top Safety Picks as well.

Kia Sportage. One of the only small ones with a little pep in the engine.
