100% graduation rate? Wow that seems high, but then again it's a community that stresses education and responsibility.

The numbers seem a bit off.

13,620 total students in a parish with a population of ~344,000 people seems a bit small. (Maybe I'm wrong)

Also, 100% graduation rate? Really, not a single dropout in the ENTIRE parish?

I agree. I wish they had more info on how they made that determination. Also, aren't the majority of schools in Orleans parish charter schools? Maybe that's why the numbers are small.

Damn, schools in Montana must really suck if this is the best:

quote:

26. MONTANA
> Best school district: Belfry K-12 Schools
> Location: Carbon County
> Per student spending: $28,500 (total enrollment: 48)
> High school graduation rate: 50.0%
> Adults with a bachelor's degree: 22.7%

Granted there are only 48 students in the whole district, but still...they couldn't find a district with a better graduation rate?

ETA: I guess the ridiculous amount spent per student boosted them up on the list. This is how they determined the "best":

quote:

To determine the best school district in every state, 24/7 Wall St. developed an index based on various measures of child poverty, per-pupil expenditure, graduation rate, teachers per student, the percentage of adults with a bachelor’s degree, preschool enrollment, and AP enrollment.

Despite slipping slightly, Zachary topped the rankings as it has for years and remains well ahead of rival districts.

Like Zachary, Central schools slipped a bit. That was enough to drop the suburban Baton Rouge district from second to third place; Plaquemines Parish took over second place, jumping five spots in the rankings. In fourth place was Ascension Parish schools, which showed modest growth

Livingston was ranked in third place last year, but thanks to the flooding, the state gave it a blanket waiver.

That's based on actual test scores

Only schools left in Orleans were the high performing schools all the rest are part of RSD. When including RSD schools Orleans is middle of all districts based on state accountability systems.

Should start with the school on the corner of Carollton and Banks in New Orleans.

It used to be St. Tammany parish back in the day. Northshore high school (Slidell) was one of the best public schools in the state. It’s probably still up there but I believe the schools have declined.

This is what happens when you only look at the numbers coming out of the magnet schools like Ben Franklin and Edna Karr.

Go look at their website. They only have 4 direct run schools plus a special program for problem students, it appears. The rest are charter schools. Probably some sort of cooking of the books, I would guess.
