Note the OP wants and ana-digi watch so a lot of suggestions don't meet his requirements.

If he is open to an analog-only watch then there are a lot more suggestions.

If he is actually killing G-Shocks (the may have been non-G Casios) then mechanical watches are not the best option either.

G-SHOCK. Personally have the MUDMASTER GWG-1000-1A. Solar battery life, designed to be beat up, and withstand all elements.

Casi-Oak!

I agree on G-shocks, I have the navy blue plastic version of the metal Casi-Oak (a play on the AP Royal vague similarities in case design) that Obtuse posted up there. When I really want a beater, I am wearing a G-shock. My favorite is the "square" series - particularly GW-56XX series which is solar + atomic time. If you want to spend less, DW-56XX is not solar nor atomic, but looks similar. The bracelet and case plastic is of higher quality in the GW series.

I prefer mechanical watches, but when I want to put on a beater its a G-shock.

Another suggestion if you want analog, is the Citizen eco-drive Promaster Tough series - titanium case sapphire crystal and you can get it in a perpetual calendar version, which is the one I have.

All these watch threads have turned me into a bit of a watch buff. I never was interested before.

Luminox

Check out some of these. Very sturdy and look good IMO. I've had one for about a year (it was around $700) and love it.

perpetual calendar version

My only "beater" and only quartz watch for the last 15 years is a Seiko SLT-095 Mile Marker with an 8F56 movement.

I think the 8F56 was the best low cost quartz movement Seiko ever made but the ended production years ago. It was in 400-500 retail watches and I think I spent about $200 on mine.

The movement is a perpetual calender. 10 year battery. It has independently adjustable 12 and 24 hour hands which do not require hacking the movement. It also has close to HAQ accuracy. For the first 11-12 years mine ran just over 11 SPY but in the last few years it has drifted to about 30 SPY. There is apparently a trace you can cut on the IC that slows it by 30 SPY but I haven't done it yet.

Mine has the goofy opisometer for measuring distances on 1:62500 topo maps.

If Seiko brought that movement back and put it into a Pepsi GMT I would happily pay $700-800 for one as it would make the perfect beater/travel watch. They made a titanium cased Alpinist with the movement but they run over $1,000 now used and the movement is likely to have drifted on all of them by now.

I thought I had a picture on imgur of how beat up mine is but it seems to have been purged, this is what the ugly fricker looked like new

Obtuse,

I trust your opinion more than most on a few things. Watches, law, cars, not particularly in that order.

This stopped after I had it serviced at a Boudreaux’s Jewelry store. They said it’s not their fault. I’ve had it going on 20 years. What’s your verdict? Should I send it to Luminox and bend over? It has sentimental value, so I’d like to use it again, if possible.

Is it quartz? IIRC most if not all Luminox from that era were quartz. If so did they try replacing the battery? It wouldn't be the first time a near dead cell was used as a replacement.

I’ve been wearing a Swiss army watch for years now. Can’t be beat for the price and quality.

It has quartz movement. I feel like this battery has to be the issue. It runs, but doesn’t keep time. It will intermittently stop altogether. They wanted to ship it off for $75, plus the cost of repair.

G shock.

I wore through the last band and bought adapters to wear a NATO band with it.

I beat this thing to death. Still awesome. And now with the adapter I can buy NATO band replacements for like $10. They are more comfortable as well.
