There is very little in St. Francisville. Two grocery stores, a few lame restaurants and little else. You'll have to drive distances to buy much of what you need for around the house.

How many grocery stores do you need exactly?

I agree. Part of the appeal of living in a rural community is that you're getting away from the city. It's comical to see city folks complaining about lack of amenities. Yes! Exactly! Stay the frick away! :D

Easy answer. Ascension. Louisiana’s best parish to live in.

More than one dump and one decent one. I guess if all you want is a limited selection it's fine.

Enough to get everything you need, which can be a problem depending on stocking issues for the stores in question.

Zachary has three (Rouses, WD, Walmart) and getting some stuff is still a problem because there will be problems with getting produce, meat, certain bakery items, some spices for cooking, etc.

Pretty sure St Francisville has the market on the way into town and an IGA. Combine that with a Fred’s, Tractor Supply, Dollar General, etc and that is decent enough for day to day but you still probably need to head into BR for Sam’s or Costco for fresh stuff or have other supplies shipped out to you.

This is dumb. In St. Tammany you can live rurally and drive 20 minutes to good amenities.

List your reasons for not wanting Baton Rouge, as well as why you have to live within 40 miles, then we can go from there.

Everybody saying St Francisville should be a red flag. Nice place now, but in ten years it will be a hellscape of cheaply built subdivisions. IDK what the answer is but it should be someplace not many people have thought of yet.

People have been saying St. Francisville for over a decade. It has not built up. I believe they are very strict about that up there. That is partly why they have limited amenities.

Well, you're comparing apples to oranges. The OP wants to live moderately close to BR. (I don't know why they do, but they do.) St. Francisville, is nice. It is lacking in amenities. It's also one of the reasons it will stay nice for a while longer. Whereas, those nice places in St. Tammany are likely to turn into shitholes faster.

Not the rural areas. And you will still be able to grab most of what you need with a quick trip.

If it's a quick trip, it's not going to stay that way. Probably the best thing to do is buy up as much real estate in those "nice" rural areas and sell them to developers in 20 years.
