Maybe try a setting with side stones? Emerald cut stones do look smaller than other shapes. Side stones or a halo will give it more impact. Otherwise, you can easily spend $7000 on a ring with very little impact. This is 1 ct:

It's meh.

She's a fan of the emerald, I'm still trying to figure out a setting band to throw it on. I think that'll compliment the stone when done right.

The way to improve an emeralds appearance is to put trapezoids on each side. Makes the ring look much nicer. It's more expensive but really complements an emerald.

I don't like Halos. I think it cheapens the stone. Don't think one would look good on an emerald at all. Side stones is your best bet.

I totally agree with side stones over halos; they’re just a lot more $$ since the stones are larger. I’m not sure what kind of budget he has in mind, so I suggested both.

When we were shopping for a stone I would stone faced ask the dealer if they could locate a conflict diamond for me as I wanted to support the war efforts in Africa. It would get really awkward and then they would say "I'll see what we can do" and I would then say I was joking. Every time I did it my wife would get so mad and embarrassed.

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with custom jewelry with any of those highly marketed businesses.

the vast majority of their stuff is out of a book and "custom" to them involve a prong change or new stone. I would be shocked to see one of them go through the CAD, Wax and casting process.

Half of my business is essentially custom jewelry. If you have specific questions, just ask.

I'd find an actual jeweler(that does the processes above), see if you can find one who is the person who stores sub out to(most stores use an outside person) and bring a stone to them. if you are actually looking to custom make one. Customs will cost more, but will be far better built and have more material in them

You can buy stones from Blue Nile, but keep in mind that the stones on there are typically the ones that don't show well in person.

This in not true

In the wholesale market there is already several variations of Blue Nile(polygon, etc...) but you must be in the industry to purchase. Blue nile is the same thing but direct to consumers at a higher rate.

The big thing with blue nile in comparison to a store or getting on the wholesale level is you cant just go on specs of a stone, you need to see in person.

If we are ordering off specs, we bring at least two stones in, but usually 3-5 and pick the best

Yeah, that's going to be an expensive diamond.

Was thinking something simple and similar to this. She's a fan of vintage style.

Some people pay extra to guarantee no blood diamonds.

Well if you are a true baller, you pay even more for a certificate guaranteeing that they are blood diamonds.

bought my center stone on pricescope, then had the band custom made at Hannon's...

ring appraised, once completed, for $4200 more than i paid for the stone + band total... i'd recommend doing that...

i know women are always concerned about the carat weight, but the most important, to you, should be cut... for a round, princess cut (the most common) you want the table at 53%, depth at 59.3%.... get as close to these #'s as possible...

and as far as carat weight is concerned, always go a little under the price point carat weights... i.e. your girl wants a 1.5 carat, look for 1.4 to 1.49 carat... no one can tell the difference, but that 1.5 mark is a significant price point where the price mark up increases drastically vs. something under it... even right under it...

very good advice here, price per carat weight increase at 1, 1.5, 2, etc...

Table and Depth are everything. Why pay for a lot of carats when they will be hidden by the setting? Learn the best depth etc for the specific cut: LINK

James Allen search with advanced search features:

I personally like some faint to moderate fluorescence to make it blue/white instead of yellowish. (IMO it offsets in case the color isn't ideal.)

Also, check out I do now I dont:
