Yeah Seattle has been begging for a team after the Super Sonics left.

I think Vegas would win out due to $$$$$

nothing is logistically feasible about not having the stadium downtown tied with the economics of the hotels and the quarter. If its moving out of downtown, its likely moving out the region. sure, we could build a basketball arena in Mandeville, but the hotels and the economics tied with nola tourism and nba events just doesn't make sense.

This is why Metairie is the only other logical option. It’s still only a few minutes from downtown Nola/French quarter for those who want to go there. Far enough away to avoid crime, close enough to not ruin hotels and restaurants in Nola

The location of the dome near restaurants, hotels, FQ, etc is what keeps the Super Bowls, Final 4s, CFB Playoffs coming to the city.

The current crime level may cause these to go away anyways

I mean she just re-did the Superdome lease with the state and made it more financially appealing to them. Tom Benson would have never done that. She is too stupid & careless to move the team & undertake that endeavor.

NFL wants a team in NOLA because of the venue and hosting capabilities in NOLA, but they may not have a choice.

You may want to read up on the antitrust legislation and the NFL that gave NO a team and will never leave. Our politicians were scummy, but in a good way.

quote:

In 1966, the NFL announced plans for a merger, but the NFL needed Congressional action to exempt the merger from antitrust laws. That's when Long, the U.S. Senate's Democratic whip, and Boggs, the House's acting majority leader, became the driving forces to finally obtain the NFL franchise for New Orleans.

With a Congressional recess looming, Long and Boggs got the antitrust bill attached to a larger piece of legislation that circumvented any attempts by Congressman Emanuel Celler of Brooklyn, a strong proponent of antitrust legislation, to block it.

That maneuvering did not come without some 11th-hour histrionics.

"What the NFL needed was an antitrust exemption," said author Cokie Roberts, the daughter of Hale and Lindy Boggs. "Daddy was on the Ways and Means Committee for the House, and Long was on the Senate Finance Committee, which are the two committees that deal with antitrust. They worked out a deal to push through the (NFL's) antitrust request if the new expansion team would come to New Orleans."

Before the final vote, Rozelle was at the Capitol and ran into Boggs. "Rozelle said something along the lines of, 'We hope … it might be … in New Orleans,'" Roberts said. "My memory is they were already halfway across the Capitol rotunda on their way to the vote, and they just stopped cold. My dad said, 'Wait a minute. No team in New Orleans, no deal.'"

The deal got done.

Once Teedy is gone, things will get better.

Hopefully. But you have to have faith in voters to pick someone better. I don’t.

At this point I think Teedy is doing it out of spite because she got slapped on the wrist for her extravagant travel spending so she is like frick it I ain’t trying to do my job. She seems vindictive like that

The next election should actually have some decent contenders.

There hasn't been a decent contender in NOLA mayor race since Ron Faucheux.

When Gayle dies the Saints are getting bought moved to either London or Austin and the Pels are going to Vegas or Seattle. Enjoy it while you can for the next 10-20 years. The leagues will fully support the moves.

He is wrong. It won't be Austin or London. It will be San Antonio, Toronto or St Louis. But Pels to Seattle to become the Supersonics is a lock.

There's a date you can watch to guarantee it. Super Bowl LIX is supposed to be in NOLA in 2025. The league has already said they're watching this constant car break-ins and general lawlessness at the Superdome and Smoothie King. They pry a Super Bowl away from Louisiana and you won't have to worry about relocating anymore. It will be a definite.

Never leave? Benson had them all but delivered to San Antonio. Goddell was neutered by Tagliabue on the optics of leaving post catastrophe, but nobody will get in the way next time of leaving the best US example of urban decay and a city full of detritus. We need to celebrate the move, not find reasons it won't happen.

It would be kind of sad to see the Saints leave. I don't give a crap about the NBA. I probably haven't watched a NBA game in 30 years.

Gee, I wonder how Chicago, Baltimore, Philly and other cities with high crime continue to have teams...

Where's the link that says the league is watching crime stats in NO?

The future trust is not too stupid to collect $5.5B and GTF out of the shitehole. Leases are made to be broken, especially with a willing NFL to assist in the move.

San Antonio made sense when Benson was still alive, not sure it makes sense these days.

Fox 8

quote:

A spokesman for the teams, Greg Bensel, says the organizations are “very concerned” and have spoken with tourism officials, Sugar Bowl organizers, and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation about the rampant car burglaries.

Bensel’s statement comes the morning after a number of cars were broken into during the Pelicans’ 119-108 win over the Houston Rockets Wednesday (Jan. 4) night.

“We have reached out to the mayor’s office and the NOPD,” Bensel said. “We are now on the radar of the NFL and NBA because of this.”

The Pelicans’ success this season and the potential for post-season play has the NBA on notice.

I really think the Northshore would get behind a baseball team, but basketball? I seriously doubt it.

The state is going to subsidize them if they ever tried to leave. But they'd probably dangle a new stadium in front of them - and that's highly unlikely to be in New Orleans proper, if for no other reason that there's no space anywhere.
