JBE's first term wasn't all that bad

.....it showed everyone unequivocally that his tax and spend ways weren't going to get us out of the Jindal hole...and it culminated with the threat to cancel LSU football unless we raised taxes....yep it was great.

Was Mike Foster corrupt by any chance?

The only thing he did that was kinda shady (but completely mild by LA standards) was he paid a chunk of money for David Duke's mailing list, in conjunction with Duke bowing out of the race. Looked a bit like Mike paid him to quit the race. I think the state ethics board fined him a few years later.

Another vote for Foster. 8 years of economic growth, no real scandals, and small-ish government.

Some of you younger, wilder people would think Foster was somewhat of a RINO, because he switched from Dem to GOP during the 95 election. He was always a conservative, though.

Jindal years 1-2 were outstanding, and 1-3 were pretty damn good. But 6-8 were so awful that it counters a lot of what he did in 1-3.

Roemer had some good ideas, in the same vein that Vitter had some good ideas. Roemer got some things done... but he couldn't get along with anyone. That made him relative ineffective. Plus, Roemer was boring and bland and that doesn't play well in LA, especially being surrounded by EWE.

And EWE... what can you say? He enriched himself at the cost to the state. For the average uneducated Louisiana resident, he was pretty good. He was an expander of the nanny state, made sure everyone was decently (not well) taken care of. Stuff got done under him to benefit a lot of people. It just wasn't things that made us smarter or a better place to do business.

He was also tied to Jack Kent, the guy who turned toxic waste in to road building material.

Wrong. The worst Louisiana Governor of all time belongs to Huey Long with Edwin Edwards a close second.

Huey completely institutionalized the culture of corruption that plagues Louisiana to this very day and permeates into every nook and cranny of local and state government. His nanny state culture is something that took hold in Louisiana like a strong Oak tree and we have only made barely noticeable small gains in getting rid of it over the decades.

The next republican candidate for Governor should make it a campaign promise to put C4 all over his statue in front of the capital and blow that POS to hell.

John McKeithen if we’re going by the 50 year window...he had two years left in his second term.

We're talking the last 50 years, but I agree that Huey Long was terrible as was Earl.

Bel’s first term wasn’t that bad?!? 70,000 jobs sent out of state, and that doesn’t count the ones we could have had if he hadn’t fricked up ITEP and stayed cuddled up to his trial lawyer buddies and made sure there was no tort reform. Oh, let’s not forget him sending parishes and state agencies out to sue the state’s biggest employer. So instead of a governor that uses his money to screw call girls we got a governor that uses our money to screw us. Good choice hoss.

I remember a reporter asking Mike Foster about a group protesting at the gov mansion the upcoming weekend and what he thought about it. He said they could do whatever they wanted, he was gonna be duck hunting.

Freakin' right. Two-term well-regarded scandal-free governor that presided over great growth in state's economy, built tons of infrastructure, got the Superdome approved and the Saints under his tenure, and greatly helped the transition from segregation-era to modern times.
