I have 3 very strong memories.

1. I came home early from LSU one Christmas and stopped by the LSU Dairy Store to pick up some Eggnog (which is the GOAT eggnog, btw) and drove home with it to Monroe and surprised him at work with the Eggnog and a cup. He worked for the phone company and worked in a building like this 8 hours a day. I've never seen him so happy as he was when I showed up at his office. I'd never done that before.

2. I finally bought my first car after graduating and surprised my dad by giving him my old pickup which he LOVED (pic below). he left the Grand Marquis in the driveway and drove the truck to work every day after that until he retired.

3. My dad loved shooting pool and had a custom table at our house built by my uncle but we always limped along with the broken bar sticks at our house. For some reason it never occurred to him to go out and buy a nice cue stick so I surprised him with a Huebler cue stick (out of Shreveport I believe) which cost me $100 at the time and was a fortune considering I was making $3.35/hr but he treated that stick like it was a fine piece of porcelain.

Ok, now back to your regular OT crap

My old man left this world in August, and all I ever really gave him was generic gifts.

Nice post man.

Bought both of us a last minute ticket to the World Series. He drove me up from our hometown to watch several games a year in the Astrodome when I was a kid. Being with him to celebrate a WS win is something I will never forget.

i completely forgot about another time when he was working in NOLA and i drove there from LSU on a sunday morning, swung through central and grabbed a muffelata, stuffed it in my jacket, picked him up and took him to see the saints play. pulled the sandwich out at halftime. he loved the saints and it was the only time he ever saw them play live

eta he also came down for a SINGLE LSU game...and it was the Earthquake game. great memories.

We went to the Masters together one year. I framed the tickets along with a pretty cool masters poster I bought at the pro shop.

I wish I had this relationship with my father or even stepfather. I'm not sure some of you guys realize how fortunate you are.

Masters tickets. He was diagnosed in November. Parked at backed entrance walked him in his LSU Jacket with his LSU Chair to the first row on pond at 16. He sat there all day Wednesday loving every minute of it. I took a Pic of him from across the pond . Its proudly displayed in my office. He died on Fathers Day that same year.
