I think I may have felt something. It's been a really long time since I could honestly say that.

My dad had to give up hunting when he had me (a long with him and my mom both being let go from their jobs like 3 weeks apart) so once he finally got back on his feet and started to hunt he went to a gun shop and had a custom built shotgun made. I told the owner to call me when it was in and I had him call my dad and tell him that the gun couldn't be made for some reason and to come in and design another one. My dad had actually woken up with the flu that day so he was in a really shitty mood but damn near cried when the guy walked out of the back with the gun.

Best gift I ever got my Dad was taking him and my son to lunch every Sunday. The money spent was a drop in the bucket compared to being able to spend quality time together. My Dad passed away three years ago on Dec. 22 and I am beyond grateful for the time we had together.

My Dad was a simple guy who came from a poor upbringing. He got his Ed.d and was a college professor for 30+ years, but he still never bought anything extravagant. He loved fishing, but always used Zebco reels on cheap rods.

For his retirement, I got him a Shimano Curado (the good old green ones before they changed them) on a Falcon Coastal Rod.

He loved that combo and fished with it for the rest of his life. Lost him back in May. This will be our first Christmas without him.

I had a guy make a plaque with the insignia of my Dad's Korean War division. He hung it up in his living room, and when he passed away, my Mom gave it to me. It's on my wall now.
