Southdowns shopping center on the Balis side. It was converted into several restaurants that never made it. I think the last one was Table maybe?

Local entrepreneur got the bright idea to buy the shopping center, run the lease renewal Sky high and force an institution out. On the other side of the coin, that place made a mint. My Dad is in his early 60’s and drank beer there as a young man. The owners should have bought the place long before.

They actually relocated out on Hwy 30 out in St Gabriel...same name and everything. Have a warehouse I work at less than half a mile from their relocated spot.

But obviously it wasn’t the same.

The stories I could tell...frick it I’ll go ahead and tell one...

Had just walked in and saw a girl I’d dated in the past at the booth requesting something...I was about to to go “lay a trot line,” as I used to call it...

I was ordering a beer at the corner of the front bar and turn around to see if my boys had made it in...pretty little thing walks through the door, walks up to me, straight up grabs my junk, squeezes while looking at me and says, “Yeah...you’ll do. You need to close out...”

I try to play it cool but I was so surprised I didn’t know if she was asking or telling me to...

But I did. Quickly...

Like I said earlier...good times man. Good fricking times.

Oh, shite, I remember now. Only went once or twice. They closed down within a year of The Bulldog opening next door, didn't they?

I don't remember exactly. My going out days mostly ended well before it closed. Got married and had twins. Talk about a lifestyle change

Had a beer bought for me when I was underage...then had it taken away from me by the staff.

That's my only experience there

That place was hands down THE best bar around at the time. The fried cheese sticks alone were worth a drive in from Pluto. We would go for happy hour and end up staying till the place would close. Happy hour was best around also from what I remember. Maybe $2 beer and half price appetizers. Not sure.

For those that remember and were regulars at both places...what were your prime years of hanging there?

Caterie for me was from around 97-03 or I wanna say 04. Southdowns I stumbled onto later but same deal...was a regular until around 2005 or so.

Damn I loved the Caterie. My good friends band would play there a lot on the weekends when we were at lsu (cover band named otherwise, they played all the good 90s rock). The pool table upstairs area overlooking the stage was so money. I definitely met a lot of girls there. That place was awesome.

ETA: undergrad for me was 03-07

I pretty much used to live there. One night it was mid week, stopped by after work. It was around jazz fest time of year Zebra was playing cover was like $20. I just sopped to have a few beers with my buddy working to door. After a while I walked in to talk to the bartender I was dating and Greg Allman got up and started jamming with them it was awesome. Place was maybe half empty.
Another night I stopped by it was over winter break and all the lights were on and a few of the staff were in the front room drinking and I walked in and said what's wrong looks like someone died in here, couple hours before they had found the owner dead inside, freaky.

Whatever happened to Spank? My last time seeing them was at the caterie and they had just had something run on MTV. Dude said he was going to Alaska to write songs and never hears from them again.

When I was a regular lineup was Monday Rhett Anthony with Cam Pike, Tuesday and Wednesdays were Kirk holder and Todd Westbrook Thursdays were Alison Collins or chris LeBlanc. Friday's and Saturday's were others and Sunday was Todd and/or Kirk.

Monday's were always my favorite.
