The best place for characters without waiting in ridiculous lines is Epcot
The Frozen princesses I would avoid probably for the next 20 years

Next trip is for marathon weekendquote:
I went during Marathon weekend every year since 2008, but gonna miss it this year. It really is a cool time to go.
The wife and I got married the Friday night before marathon weekend in 2006 and took our honeymoon beginning that Sunday. The first day or 2 after the marathon is a little crowded for January, but the rest of the week is spectacular. We've gone back 3 or 4 times during that week since then. Great time to go.

For dinner shows the food at Hoop Dee Do is outstanding. I'm not lying when I say it's probably my favorite fried chicken.
I'll vouch for this. The ribs are great and the fried chicken is top-notch.

Yep. The Character Spot at Epcot in Innoventions west is awesome. You can knock out Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald in a matter of 15-20 minutes if you go at the right time.

This will be our third time going for the race. First time, we did the week before. It was okay. Second time, we did the week after. It was amazing. My favorite time to go now. And it's a huge plus that the races are over and I don't have to worry about my food/water intake or resting my feet and legs.

Well, I'm no glutton for punishment, so we don't partake in the races. You do see a good bit of people around the resorts and parks wearing the medals. But those numbers decline considerably as the week goes on.

I'll be wearing 6 medals this year... 4 races + goofy challenge medal + dopey challenge medal.
Training has already started, and I'm questioning my sanity.

Enormous fail If the park opens at 9 and you have to eat breakfast, you want a 8 am or 8:05 reservation before the park actually opens. But again, you will do MUCH better doing attractions at 8:45 - 9:30 am and eating a character meal at noon, then sitting at a character breakfast during the least crowded time of the day then trying to ride stuff and see shows during the hottest and busiest times of the day.
This is if you're doing a full day with a two year old, and it's 100% correct. The later you get to sleep in, the better. No attractions will be open before the park opens, so doing a ride at 8:45am when a park opens at 9am won't work well. What we did with the new FP+ system, and it worked well was this (say 9am park open):
Breakfast 9:15am, get to park at 8:45. Find chick or lil' dude with a clipboard, go to "reservation". Haul arse to Soarin'/7 Dwarves/etc and get in line. Ride said ride as soon as park opens, 9am. Note that in June, no rides were open before the park opening, even when workers were present. Go to breakfast reservation 5-10 mins late. Eat, then go to one more big attraction. FP+'s were made early if possible, usually 10:30-noon. When FP+s are done, grab lunch and ride small stuff until too hot. Go back to hotel to swim or let 2y/o's nap. Go to dinner reservation, then hit parks around 6:30pm at whichever park the lines aren't long at (b/c FP is fuxxed at this point).

Eh, I was HIGHLY disappointed with the food there. The themeing is incredible...but the food was very sub par for me.

Our kids were 1,2.5, & 4 last trip. Wish we would've dedicated 3 whole days to Magic Kingdom.
I highly recommend going back to the hotel for a break around lunch time.
Hollywood Studios and Epcot had few things for young kids. You can cut those to 1/2 day trips, and spend the second half of the day at Magic Kingdom.
Akershus at Epcot character dining was the best.
Animal Kingdom character dining was worst.
We wasted a lot of time standing in line for princess meet & greets.

Anyone else going to be @ WDW on 9/6 (Sam Houston)? First beer at ESPN Club is on me if so.
That's the day we leave, man. We'll be there from 8/31-9/6.
I'll still drink one for ya tho!
I just finished reading the thread and you've given some really great advise.
I'm about to make the first trip to DW with a 6 & 4 year old.

You tried to book using this link?
LINK
Here’s some info about how to do that:
Disney will tell you that this is by invitation only and indeed, they email a lot of people a few weeks before their trip to invite them but that doesn’t mean this won’t work as well. However, do NOT call or do an online chat with Disney because they will tell you their official line (“it’s just a test and you can’t book it ahead of time”) and will not help you at all.
You can book the reservation by visiting LINK
That link may ask you for a 12-digit numeric confirmation number, not the shorter alphanumeric confirmation number that you can probably find easily. Here are a few ways to find the 12 digit number:
If you booked a room-only reservation, the number is likely shown at LINK
If you booked a package and you have less than 60 days before your trip, go to LINK and hover over the “check in online” link but DON’T click it. See the URL that it points to and the last 12 digits should be your confirmation number.
On Magical Express luggage tags that are mailed to you
As part of your Memory Maker package info
Your reservation will NOT show up in your My Disney Experience account with all of your other reservations so write down the info or take a screenshot so you have it for later.
You can usually book this about 3-4 weeks before your trip begins.

Good lord it seems like it would be easier to pass the medical boards than plan a decent trip to Disney.
