so is a good strategy to be in the parks with late extra magic hours in the morning?? do people figure they can hit these up in the second part of the day
The extra magic hours aren't as much of a benefit as they once were. In fact, they actually attract more people to the park during the day, so some people have started avoiding them. But others want to go early and stay late so they can fit the most they can into a single trip, which is fine. It's all preference. You may have already done so in the thread, but if you give me more info, I can give some better advice. How big is your party? Lots of kids? How long are you going? Favorite park(s)? Do you want to get in as much as you can or enjoy a slower pace and not be upset if you don't get to everything?

also is the Halloween party worth it

Good lord it seems like it would be easier to pass the medical boards than plan a decent trip to Disney.
It isn't really that hard, but it is one vacation that improves dramatically the earlier you plan.
You don't have to have an exact agenda where you will spend every second, but the timeline lays everything out fairly easily.
About 7 months out from your arrival date Disney releases park hours with extra magic hours. This information is all you really need to figure out what parks will be the busiest and least crowded on each day.
Once you can see what days are better to visit what parks, then you can start to see what dining options you have either at that park or a nearby resort. Those reservations can be booked starting at 180 days (6 months).
Now that you now what parks are the best to be in and where you are eating 6 months out, you have the next four months to think about some of the "must do" attractions on your list because two months prior to arrival you can start to make FP+ reservations.
Now, none of this stuff is needed and you can still enjoy yourself without an planning, BUT your expectations just need to be different. The person who plans well in advance wil almost assuredly have less waits, for better attractions, in less crowded parks while eating better food and seeing better shows.

Ell, alls I'm saying is that for the price point, it can't be beat. Quick service meals are meant to be comparable to McDonald's. (Note that my experiences there have all been lunch, not dinner when I think it switches to a Table Service) Plus, it's always cold as ice in there, or maybe it's just the snow, I don't know.
Let me just throw this out there for any potential travelers going to Disneyworld as well, do my daily good deed so I can get back to being a terrible human. Find managers when you go to an eatery if you had a good experience and tell them you did. All they hear about are the complaints people have. Our last trip we had several instances where we saw other guests beings dicks about stuff, and went and filed anti-complaints, and I'll say this, you'll often be surprised at what can happen when you go out of your way to let them know you appreciate what they're doing.

The Garden Grill - one of our favorites
Chef Mickey's - not one of my favorites. I think for tor the money Tusker House at Animal Kingdom is better. Same characters, better food. BUT, different location so logistically might not work for you.
Be Our Guest - dinner is nice. Probably a tad overrated because people treat it like gold, but still good and the only place to meet Beast.
Hollywood and Vine-Fantasmic seats tie in - Mama Melrose is our choice for Fantasmic Dining experience, but they don't have characters. It's not bad, but it is a buffet.
Ohana - Eat your face off. No matter how much you want to, do not fill up too early. They bring the steak skewers out last, so don't fill up on too many dumplings, wings, shrimp, etc. And the bread pudding dessert is awesome. Make sure to arrive early and get a drink from the Tambu Lounge next door. If the kids want to play, there is an arcade downstairs.
As far as the FP+, all good choices. The most important thing to remember about the new FP+ system is that it isn't like it used to be. The biggest benefits will not come from getting the most FP+ possible, but rather making sure the ones you choose best suit your family.
We hate waiting for parades, so the electrical parade choice for us is a no brainer. I'd much rather wait 25 minutes for Splash Mnt, then wait an hour on main Street to get a good viewing location of the parade.

After being at Disneyland in May, my SO and I decided we aren't going to bring ours until they are 6
And that is about when we will stop going for a while.
As they get older and outgrow strollers, but can't handle the 6-10 miles of walking per day you end up doing less, but spending the same or more.
Three trips this year, a Disney Cruise next year, Hawaii in 2015, and maybe a long weekend here or there but in my opinion 6-like 10 is much harder on parents.
Now, when mine gets tired, into the stroller and sleep while mommy and daddy go have some beverages.

FP+ is totally new to me, but I'm lucky in that I won't have to rely on it hardly at all due to the time of year we are going. Last time we went in mid January, TSMM was only a 15 minute wait at 11:00 am. Our longest wait all trip was probably Fast Track (50 min) since it went down for 30 minutes.

once you use a fp+ are you able to book anything else worth a shite for later in the day. i know you said to get all the morning fp first but wouldn't the lines be shorter in the morning and the fp+ be better utilized in the afternoon?

The best strategy is to hit the parks one day that had extra magic hours the day before...especially p.m. extra magic hours. ALOT of people don't get hoppers, so they go to parks with EMH to get more time in the park, even though they probably get less done than if they went on a non EMH day.
I would almost 100% of the time suggest definitely skipping morning extra magic hours because by 10:30 am, that will be the most crowded park. Instead, wake up an hour later and spend your morning in the least crowded parks, and go about your day. if you want to hop to the park that has p.m. EMH once everything else closes, thats always a bonus and truly extra.
People will swear up and down how much they can get done the first hour during morning EMH, and you can do alot. But no more than you can do at another park an hour later that doesn't have extra magic hours. Being there for rope drop is one of the biggest tools to hitting headliners with little to no wait and being able to save your FP.
Eat cereal or toast in the room, grab a banana and apple for the walk to the bus and eat breakfast on the go.

quote:That is actually many people's strategy for that reason. Also, you can't book more FPs until you use all 3 of your original ones. And often by that time, there are no FPs available anywhere.

s the Halloween party worth it, we will be there in sept. so something Halloween themed seems a bit strange (and worried about a 4 year old staying up till midnight)
Yes, it is awesome. Dress in costume if you can.
Guests with ONLY party tickets can enter magic kingdom as early as 4 pm even though the party starts at 7, and people think it will be crowded and don't want to be kicked out too early so Magic Kingdom is always a recommended park the day of a party.
here is a good article on the party.

Once you use a FP, can't you just go to one of the stations (or online) and book another for the same day? Seem to have read that somewhere.
I think that FP is awesome. We went in June during the Star Wars weekend and really only used it some of the times - on Pirates, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, the Haunted Mansion, and the Toy Story ride. For the others we had FP's for, the lines weren't long enough to worry about. What I do wish is that the FP could be booked in seperate parks for the same day.

At Magic Kingdom, kinda. You can still find FP+ for things like Pooh, Pirates, Thunder Mnt, Little Mermaid Ride. Magic Kingdom just has a TON of stupp on FP+ and no tiering.
At any other park, there will really be nothing of substance after your third FP+.

That is 100% our approach (unless we have something else going on the afternoon).
The first two hours a park is open will be the least crowded and when you will need your FP+ the least.
Spent from 8:45 - 11:00 doing headliners and things that don't offer FP+ (Merida Meet & Greet for example) then try one mid morning...eat some lunch and schedule two back to back sometime in the afternoon or evening.

All 3 have to be used before you can book more either using the app or at one of the kiosks.

so heres the plan. havent added dining reservations to it since i have multiples booked and am still deciding

No EPCOT?!?!?
But seriously, you probably don't need any of those early FPs if those are one of the first 2 or 3 things you hit anyway.

Any additional FP+ must be made from a kiosk. You can change it fro the app on your phone afterwards, but they must be made from the kiosk.

was gonna do epcot in the afternoon after animal kingdom
Posted on 7/30/14 at 9:44 am to CE Tiger
Gotcha. I think Animal Kingdom is finally a full-day park for us. And EPCOT always has been b/c my wife loves the countries. But I don't blame you for wanting 2 days at MK with a little kid.
Posted on 7/30/14 at 9:46 am to ell_13
i think we are doing the Akershus Royal Banquet Hall dinner friday night so that will put us in Epcot. I can hit some stuff after dinner

Then that is where I would make my FP+ at.
If you are at Animal Kingdom when it open at 8:45 and go straight to the Safari, you won't have any wait and you won't need a FP+ for Lion King or Nemo.
Wouldn't it be nice to show up to Epcot with three FP+ waiting for you for that evening.
The people who will benefit the most from FP+ are those who still hit rope drop at a recommended park, then hop to somewhere else and have their FP+ for the park they hop to not from.
