Few reasons IMO

Tax for being relatively lax on underage drinking

Free drinks 8-10, penny pitches (GOAT) nights

Basically zero competition so who’s stopping them.

When I was around, Athens was laxer on underage drinking no cover but that was probably because they have a million bars.

My buddies that went to UT were mind blown at how easy it was to buy booze in Baton Rouge compared to Austin.

The Library in Oxford has a $40+ cover on home games and people never bat an eye at it. It's a massive bar so I can't imagine what kind of cash they bring in and it all goes unreported.

It was decent, the best part was the bars closing at midnight meant big house parties every weekend night. It was kind of the reverse from LSU with bars being the pregame and house parties being the main event.

I went to college as an non-traditional student after separating from the Army, and never got the Tigerland experience. My now-wife and I went to Fred's the last day of the 2016 Fall semester. Stood outside waiting for the doors to open, saw the riff raff and obvious non-students from the surrounding apartments that were lining up behind us and NOPE'd out of there real quick.

Worst experience:

I was on the patio at Reggie's when, out of nowhere two meathead bouncers tackle me from behind, put me in a headlock, then literally drag me out of the bar directly to a BRPD officer waiting in the parking lot. Unbeknownst to me one of my a-hole friends pulled a neon light sign off the wall and threw it over the fence right in front of the damn bouncers. When the bouncers came rushing back to see who did it that a-hole pointed to me. None of this I saw because my back was turned to that dickhead at the time and I didn't see him throw the sign.

Once outside, the cop slams me on the back of his car, cuffs me, then throws me in the back seat. All the while I am frantically asking "what the hell did I do?!!!" The cop shuts the door and leaves me there while, I guess, he continues his investigation. Then, as luck would have it this gorgeous girl that I was somewhat friends with happens to walk by with her group of friends and sees me in the back seat of the cop car. She's mouthing to me "what did you do?" To which I respond, "I don't know?" After about 25 minutes in the car the cop takes me out, uncuffs me, gives me a summons and tells me to go home or else he's going to take me in. So there I am, confused and furious that my night has ended before it even got started and now I have been charged with some sort of fricking crime I didn't commit. I walk back to my apartment (in Tigerland), alone as all my friends are still at the bar.

Best experience:

About an hour later while I'm sitting at home alone the girl who I saw earlier calls from the bar to check on me. I tell her what happened and why I can't come back to the bar. She then says she's going to walk over to keep me company. Long story short, about 3 minutes after she gets to my apartment she's ripping her shirt and bra off riding me in my bed. We'd never really done anything like that before, but apparently the sight of me in the back of the cop car and the commotion around it (coupled with a few rum and cokes) got her ridiculously horney.

So my worst experience and best experience happened on the same night

Fred’s would start playing country and patriotic music when they were trying to thin certain crowds out

I once got a hand job and stink finger under the deck at Fred’s. Didn’t know her name and never found it out, but ran into her a few times after that on campus and at Fred’s.

Most of the interesting stuff seemed to happen at the 7-11 across the street after 2:00am. It’s probably a check cashing/payday loan place now.

On the rare occasion when I’d go to Sports, the bathroom was usually packed and the bar was almost always crowded with people trying to order drinks. I decided to combine the two. I would stand right up against the bar and piss in the empty cup of the beer I just finished. When I was done, I’d get a new beer and put the old “beer” on the bar and walk away. One time I saw a bartender pick up the cup of piss and he instantly knew what it was. He had a look of disgust on his face and held the cup at arm’s length as he swiveled around and threw it in a trash can.

Best experience is not getting robbed I didn’t go to Tigerland often but we would go to Mike’s every now and then. I never had a bad experience but the level of trashiness there is unreal.
