They all suck. The smaller ones are okay like MEM and MSY. So to answer your question small airports are the best.

Minneapolis is a nice large airport with attached rental car desks and a legit playground for kids. Airports are packed with amenities except almost none offer anything for families with young children kids.
Best meal I’ve had in an airport was the diner in Burlington.
Denver airport is god awful because of its rental car choices. Renting a car in Denver adds an hour plus to any trip. Just an awful set up and the airport location requires you to deal with Denver interstate traffic

I had to fly into Newark the other day from Raleigh. They told us 30 minutes prior to departure that runway construction in Newark would bump takeoff time. Ended up being a four hour delay with part of it circling the airport waiting to land. EWR and United both suck.

Worst first impression of city upon exiting - Houston Hobby: razor wire on apartment fences and barred doors sure make a statement.
The MSY car rental shuttle bus route down Bainbridge says “hold my beer”. It could qualify for a Disney ride if Disney made a rollercoaster set in a 3rd world country with nothing but chop shops, all sorts of real estate in various stages of neglect, and auto repair places with cars all over the place. Did I mention the litter?
Rumor is they will do canal work there soon and repair the street as a side bonus. Then it will be the same ‘scenic’ ride, just smoother.

DFW is fricking retarded.
Very easy to navigate once youve done it

IAH sucks. ATL and DFW are far superior.
O’Hare with the recent construction is a 45 minute taxi once you land.
EWR has a massive ATC shortage and folks are currently getting stranded there.
LFT, BTR, and MSY are great these days.

I don’t really travel much but CLT is by far my least favorite. That hike from A gates to my connection in E is a nightmare.
DFW seems like the best. The sky train is fast and enables fast connections.
No clue about United/Delta hubs.

Worst baggage claim - this is a surprise: Midland-Odessa.
The plane is literally on the other side of the wall from the claim area. Yet you can go into the airport, wait in line for 20 minutes to rent the car, and then you STILL wait for your luggage.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is Denver. You go a long way from the gate to baggage claim - but your bags are there waiting for you when you arrive.

More like 1960's, but you nailed the general feel.

DFW is a disaster for connections
It’s beyond super easy with Skylink. What’s the issue?

Newark and Miami gotta be the worst. I’ve been to many 3rd world airports that were infinitely better than these. Truly embarrassing.

Atlanta gets a bad rap but given the amount of traffic there it’s pretty easy to navigate.
Charlotte is a shitshow. If your gate is on one side and connection on the other…you have to walk the whole length of the airport.
I can’t remember if it was Ohare or LaGuardia but I went through one airport where you had to come out and get on a bus to your connection and go through security again. That sucked.

Lax is trash
O'hare is shite
Dallas is configured funky
Atlanta gets shite but it's just big
SanDiego is old but very easy
Msy is easy unless it's peak time not enough tea
Phoenix is underrated
Denver is weird looking but it's not that bad
Nashville is easy
Vegas has it down pat
Logan in Boston is a pain in the arse
Miami ft Lauderdale is great for international flights
JFK has more options the la guardia
Oakland is easier and generally cheaper to fly into and only 25 min from Frisco
Dulles is the easiest for me outside of MSY

Worst, IMO, is Orlando and my second choice O'Hare is a very distant second
Have you been to Newark?
Or Philly? Both easily worse than your two, IMHO.

Worst. Not sure, there are many. But the smallest I've seen is Hattiesburg. Waiting area the size of my living room. There is a sign that says "Gate 1". There is no Gate 2. Took 45 minutes to get 14 people through checkpoint. Food court is a gumball machine. Three flights a day. But, parking is free.
