I rented an AWD Honda CRV in Minnesota. It was very adept in icy/snowy conditions

Thank you everyone for being so helpful! I have forwarded the thread to the person. I will try to remember to update with the final purchase since we are now all invested

If you put the new ones in 4wd, the traction control turns off. Same with Sequioa and Tundra. Only the 4Runner Limited as a full time 4wd feature that works.

So I would NOT recommend the 4Runner unless it was the Limited model with the same four wheel drive as the GX460.

Our Subaru Outback is even better in the snow than our XC90 (which is also a great winter vehicle).

The Volvo XC60, Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Subaru Ascent are also very good.

You asking this from people that can't even drive in the rain?

Experts on snow tires typically do reside in Louisiana so you’ve come to the right place.

Subaru is the answer here. I drive up Loveland Pass every day in the winter and have passed countless Jeeps, SUV’s, and 4x4 pickups stuck in the snow bank. Snow tires make a huge difference too though, there’s no amount of snow I won’t drive in with my beat up old Forester with snow tires.

Yeah, but at their price point, I'd swing for the Ascent. We have a Legacy and a GX470, both handle the snow great, no complaints about Subaru except for park sensor issues.

Not all AWD systems are the same. Last time I looked at test videos on YouTube the Subaru system was the winner.

Toyotas suck in the snow unless in a tundra.

They are light in the arse.

Those are tourists that can't drive in the snow because a Subaru isn't better than a Jeep.

I'll take my Infiniti qx56 and my all terrain tires and go places most of you can't because I've got skills.

And for God’s sake put proper snow tires on whatever you buy.

Best 32-33 inch city/snow tire for A Jeep Wrangler? It’s my daily driver around Denver but I bail to the mountains every weekend I can, especially during ski season.

But were they good in the snow?

All seasons were fine but of course true snow tires would be better.

Went through a foot of snow/rain mix that was the consistency of a Slurpy for about a half mile if that helps. Was plowing with the air dam/front bumper. Other times had snow blowing back over the hood busting drifts. Often drive 50-60MPH on snow covered roads with no worries.

Of course living up north I'm used to it. I hear down south rain causes problems so studded tires may be recommended for a southerner in snow.

btw-The Avalanche has the benefit of weight. It didn't have true AWD but rather the auto 4wd. In auto the stability systems all remain active so it drives about the same as an AWD. Put it in 4hi and those turn off as sometimes you want some wheel slip in off road situations.

Jeep Grand Cherokee - heated seat, leather, cooled seats, moon roof, etc.
