Besides W2 employees, what percent of people are 100% honest with taxes?

W2 employees have no option to report earnings. I’m sitting here at a Thai restarting wondering what the odds my sales tax ends up in the restaurants pocket.

The real question is why would anyone actually be honest about that?

Who really wants to give the government more of their money?

Honest or correct? I think a lot of people try to be honest, but I'd bet a majority don't report the correct amount of income.

And something like 3% of people report use tax so almost no one pays the amount of tax they are supposed to.

Sales tax is subject to audit and it is fairly easy to do so.

I know we got a sales tax auditor on this board

I'm honest. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, and I don't make enough that it would actually make a difference.

To turn the question around, how honest is the government with its use of taxpayers’ dollars?

Damn near every friend I know who is a sole proprietor cheats on their taxes. They always are screaming about self-employment tax and I am like you write off everything!

Because I fear getting audited, I am more than honest. I don't claim things that I could because if they ever come calling, I want some leeway. I am disorganized as shite and I know they'll find something I missed.

I operate 100% under the assumption that the burden of persuasion lies squarely on the shoulders of the people (machine) trying to take my money.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but if it's you operate as though the IRS has to prove you can't take a deduction or credit or so forth you're absolutely wrong. If you get audited and can't provide support you're going to get hit with penalties and fines.

Pay and tip with a card instead of cash and you wont have to worry about the restaurant or the server trying to evade taxes
