I simply can’t even imagine a 34’ wave. Good grief man.

I wouldn't feel right if I let a comment about big waves in hurricanes pass without mentioning Ivan, who says hold his beer!

quote:

When Ivan entered the Gulf of Mexico, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory ocean-floor pressure sensors detected a freak wave, which was caused by the hurricane. The wave was around 91 feet (28 m) high from peak to trough, and around 660 feet (200 m) long.[4] Their computer models also indicated that waves may have exceeded 130 feet (40 m) in the eyewall.[5]

Not sure you can believe what the 12z GFS is showing, if it can show weakness the next couple runs then we could start feeling better but as of right now most models have a hurricane after it crosses the yucatan. Still 7 days out but something to keep an eye on.

It seems that early on they’ve been predicting it to hit unfavorable conditions even before it gets to Mexico, which will weaken it.
Not sure how much we can know about what it does once back into the gulf this far out.

Yeah with the initialization off I think it throws off the whole run, a weaker storm will be steered across the yucatan into the BOC but the other models are showing atleast a hurricane passing the yucatan therefore getting pulled north

One thing that (possibly) could cramp its style is if it consorts with that big bloom of Sahara Dust. This apparently hasn't ever occurred during the years NOAA has been tracking Atlantic storms. No one kneaux what happens when a Cat 4 monster siezes megatons of fine sand; we can only hypothesize til we observe with our own eyes-- kinda like that huge asteroid which hit Jupiter head-on in 1994.

What’s wrong with it? I always found it to be a nice little town. I was there a month ago for a couple days for work.
