They did that several decade ago on a plane out of the airbase next to Biloxi. The plane bounced around so much it was hard to focus. Also it reminded me of one really turbulent flight I'd taken. I couldn't watch more than five minutes because I started feeling airsick. I'd forgotten how hard it is to watch a feed from a bouncing camera.

Last night I was thinking I'd probably stay for the stories, but with the northern shifts since I'd now be considering getting out

Yeah, frick that.

We were there one trip when a tropical depression rolled through the Negril coast, for us landlocked midwesterners, you people got sack. Though watching the ocean explode from a second story piano bar while drinking Hummingbirds was fricking awesome.

Anyone know if Herk Flyer is doing his badass thing and flying through that bitch?

I take my PPL lessons from a baw that used to fly hurricane hunters. He has ice water in his veins for sure.

Well...

In this case it does.

A stronger storm in the Gulf is going to feel the northern pull at the mid-levels better. A stronger storm off Jamaica is likely to be farther north, go off the Yucatan farther north with less interaction and be stronger in the gulf.

We have the following protocols in place for hurricane categories

Cat 1/2: Hamsters
Cat 3: NYC mice
Cat 4: The harnessed power of tarzana's idiocy
Cat 5: Peej on a 48-hour cocaine induced bender

Thanks for the info, Duke and rds. I think you guys mention a ridge that the storm could break, though. Is this still the situation that the storm has to deal with?

If we had thousands of wind turbines out in the gulf set to maximum resistance could that at least maybe knock the intensity of these storms down a level or 2?

This is akin to some idiot asking if we can nuke a hurricane.

Would you say matamoros to Lake Charles is 100% guaranteed landfall range?

I would nudge it a little further south, to include Tampico up to the LA/TX state line. Models are sorta all over the place, not much agreement post Yucatán.
