HWRF still says that landfall intensity will be 85 knots.

With the way Beryl is starting to look better on radar, that is reasonable. Pressure drop of 1 mb per hour would be right about 970 at landfall in about 20 hours.

Nws forecasting wind gusts up to 90 mph in Fort Bend County. A lot of people are going to be caught off guard, pending the expected strengthening.

huh? What info are they looking at? They say gusts, but even on the high side, thats going to be a big stretch.

Nhc thinks the intensity guidance is underselling it.

This is from the nws from the middle of Fort Bend County.

Maybe they will be right, but hard to imagine a barely Cat 1 storm will have 90mph winds 1-200 miles inland

Those 24 hour points on the intensity graph above are after landfall once it has already started weakening. If the chart showed the 18 hour intensities they would be higher/stronger.

I-10 is 90 miles inland from the due south. Mid Fort bend county is 70 miles in.

I think the Houston metro area is going to start scrambling this morning/afternoon.

NWS Houston discussion

LINK

quote:

As of the latest forecast, we`re expecting the core of the stronger winds (hurricane force) to be centered around Matagorda Bay, but tropical storm force winds will extend inland up to the I-10 corridor. These strong winds may lead to large areas of power outages, downed trees, and potentially damage to roofs and mobile homes especially for areas south of I-10 and west of I-45 closer to the center of circulation.

I’m about 10 miles north of I-10, but this morning it looks like Austin County may end of being west of the eye and the west Houston suburbs getting the real sporty stuff.

In Houston and a month ago I spent $2500 rebuilding my back fence that was knocked down during one of the spring storms.

I’m going to be so pissed if it happens again in a 45 day span

I’m in Fort Bend. Y’all pour one out for my new fence (and checkbook)

Fort bend checking in.

Did 3k in fence work last Thanksgiving break. Hoping I didn't skimp too much on the concrete footings.

I’m in Pearland and my 28 year old fence is on its last leg. I doubt this is what takes it down but it wouldn’t shock me.
