Being transferred to Baptist Southeast

So I have been put into candidate pool to interview for position in Beaumont. I know Beaumont itself is a cesspool but what about the suburbs or out of town areas? It’s a good move up in clinical position so if offered I’ll need help where to look.

I had about three families of relatives who used to live in Nederland. It was very nice then…but that was the late 70’s.

Parts of Beaumont are good, the West End or area around Regina Howell Elementary and areas off Gladys, Phelan and Dowlen Rd. Burbs to look would be Lumberton, Nederland and Port Neches. Bevil Oaks/ Pine Wood is good but prone to flooding.

Beaumont is one of the few places in texas worse than a lot of Louisiana

Beaumont isn’t Beverly Hills but it actually isn’t *that* bad. Orange and Port Arthur that are uninhabitable shitholes but Beaumont is just your baseline gulf coast refinery town.

Seconded. I've never lived there but my mom grew up in Beaumont and I still have a lot of family in that area.
From my limited knowledge, Lumberton doesn't seem too bad as suburbs go. I've always preferred the north side of Beaumont over the mid county area (Port Neches/Nederland/Groves) anyway because of the pine forests and some rolling terrain, and the absence of refineries/industries like you have around those communities between Beaumont and Port Arthur.
It does seem like it can be a bit of a pain in the arse traffic wise commuting to and from Beaumont for work if you live in Lumberton.
Also, I know the housing closer to Village Creek (used to love camping at the State Park there) in Lumberton has had some problems with flooding in the past as well.

Honestly, I have lived all over this country and have never found anyplace that I just absolutely could not live. No matter how large or how small the area, you just have to put a little bit of effort in to find where the people are that you want to be around.

Grew up with a kid who lived on Thomas Rd. Used to go to his house and play basketball on the court in the back yard. At some point they bought the house next door and joined them together.

For a year or so, sure. For a long time with a wife and kids? I’m sorry but that’s non sense. My dad was Air Force I was born in North Dakota and live in Florida, I’ve lived in South Carolina to Hawaii. Del Rio, Texas and Alamagordo, New Mexico. Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
There’s a huge difference in lifestyle depending on where you live. It’s not that some places are that bad, it’s that there’s plenty of options that are really good.
