Being logical doesn’t mean you’re correct.

This is just a PSA.

I see too often people say something is a good idea because it’s logical. That really shouldn’t be. Logic is theorem based science. You can easily point out something is a false conclusion because of logic but you really can’t say it’s the right conclusion. Because you have to have valid variables to plug into your logic statements.

Without that, a logic statement , while logical, doesn’t do a lick of good.

So are you saying that it won't matter if a person is illogical? Terrific point!

Thanos Snap logic:

Guns are not involved in all mass killings. People are. Get rid of all the people and there won’t be any more mass killings.

It matters sure, but that’s only part of it. To be sound, it must be both logical AND valid.

I'd like to hear Les Miles' input on this:

"The acheivement of logic is gained through the efforts of the concentration of thinking in a manner which is conducive for the team effort. "

Of course the assumption declarations are more complicated and easier to frick-up than the arguments expressions. You only posted the easy part. There are formal grammars and serializations available for that as well, it's a lot messier and is spread out across subjects.

It's still a necessary precursor to valid argumentation. Is this a response post or something? Not everyday you have someone trying to minimize the purpose of being logical.

Not any one thing. And not necesssrily anything from this site. Just thinking about opinions (useless) and facts and how people select their facts and drawing false conclusions because they don’t use valid facts. Just seeing people agree with stuff because “it’s logical” and just thinking, “sure, that’s logical but they’re still drawing bad conclusions.”
