My reply: LOL. You are the host. You tell me Bubba

Well that’s a bad reply. Now you’ve volunteered to cook whatever he tells you.

You didn't say it was 100 people. That seems a bit extreme. I'd just buy a box of Popeye's and throw it on the table.

We have a super bowl party and we all bring stuff. I wouldn't expect the host to have to clean up, etc. AND prepare a lot of food for some freeloaders to come in empty handed.
I don't think it's out of line to ask someone to bring something, especially if you mention it right away. Don't bother going, if you don't want to being in some celery and carrots. You don't have to bring food for 100 people, just really bring enough for you and your wife, perhaps a few more.

Probably a "joke" and he's hoping you bite.

"I'm not going to have time to cook this week, but I'm happy to pick something up. Do you have anything in mind?"

This isn't all that hard

He didn't specifically ask but hinted that he wanted me to make a jambalaya for the party.

Exactly. If they're inviting 100 people and asking everyone to bring a dish then I doubt they expect everyone to feed 100 people. That would work out to 10,000 servings.

Tell him you'll bring a dessert.

Bake some pot brownies.

Proceed to have a great time!

It’s a complete dick move to invite someone to the party and wait for their confirmation to tell them to bring food. If you are throwing a party then you provide everything for your guests. This isn’t Sunday potluck after church. Anyone contributing food/money should be considered a host, not a guest.

Even worse if he is hinting that you make a jambalaya. That’s a main course and is the thing you usually make to feed the most people. He’s basically asking you to take care of the food. frick him. I’d tell him I’m bringing a sandwich tray and stop at the store on the way to the party.

Serious question...

Are you sure he wasn't just joking with you to make conversation? Or are you not that close?

Him: Hey,maybe you can make the jambalaya, if you feel don't mind.

Me:Ok, I guess so. Who all is going to be there cooking?

Him: Just you and I.

Then he goes on to tell me about all of the other shite he has to do that day. So, it sounds like hes serious to me.

Pick up the phone and call them. Geez. He was probably screwing with you. If he wasn't ask him what the other 100 people were bringing. Prolly cheaper for everyone to throw in 30-50 bucks get it catered and BYOB.

Y'all both suck at partying

One of my best buds in Tulsa used to call up all excited and stuff about spur of the moment parties.

I'd get there, nobody else there. he'd get on the phone to everyone else then and tell them bring raw foods as I was there ready to cook.

The 1st half dozen times I was like WTF??? After that it was just yeah sure, know the routine now.

But like another asked earlier: He a bad cook or you just that good? Yep, bud was terribad and I am that good.
