I feel like with Pecker's approach, I should be able to get away with telling people I know what it's like to be the QB of a 6-time superbowl championship team.

You're telling me you know what it's like, you've said that exact line word for word. You don't think at any point that is just a little silly and naive on your part?
I said that specifically in the context of knowing that parents face stressful situations.

quote:

P: Why do I have to have kids to know that parenthood can be stressful?

L: You can know it while simultaneously not knowing it. You can't appreciate it until you actually live it.

P:I don't need to appreciate it. You suggested that I'd need kids of my own to know what it's like. Which is preposterous.

I know that parenting can be stressful. I understand that it’s stressful. I hear about it all the time from parents. I had parents and I watched my parents with my sister.

To say that I need kids to know that parenthood can be stressful is illogical. My understanding of that is why I don’t want kids right now.

Because that’s as well-understood as the responsibilities associated with raising children.

It's hyperbole to say that teaching is tougher than any job in the world, but can we at least admit it's more difficult than a lot of people think?

Communicating information in a way that people listen to and can learn from is a skill that not a lot of people (some teachers included) possess.

You can know it's stressful, sure. But you haven't ever felt the stress of your wife giving birth and those days just after.

Stress is a word like "sad". It's too generic to use in the same argument as "know what it's like".

You say this, which is fine, but you also think mothers in general are more delusional than teachers.

So only because lots of people have experienced parenthood, means that you have a better understanding of it? Is that what this boils down to? Volume?

Being a good teacher isn't easy, no argument there.

Yes, some have confused “can’t do” with “don’t want to do”.

Name a thing, and if hundreds of thousands of dumpy women (and a few hotties) can do that thing every day, it’s not that difficult. If we’re being honest, our kids are generally dumb as shite and so are most k-12 teachers I know, so it’s not like they are doing it particularly well, as a whole.

Janitors don’t make much money and have to clean up poop. I don’t want to do that either.

Special Forces may have the most difficult job in the world and I’d love to do it, but I can’t because I wouldn’t make the cut.

shite. I’ll never work in education without a union solely because of the fricking frivolous lawsuits parents can and will file.

I had to give a deposition once over a kid who had a piece of pencil lead stuck in his finger and it got infected because his Mom who we couldn’t get ahold of (no working numbers) wasn’t “called immediately”.

All the points make the difficulty come down to acceptance of the occupation, not performing it.

It’s a problem of lack of time management, student to teacher ratios, lack of conduct consequences and alternative placement options, and pay motivation.

The work not spent gaining education or skill for your future career usually ends up spent to make up for the lower salary obtained.

We can’t all cry because some of us aren’t intelligent enough to add more from themselves per amount of time to their work field, therefore have to work longer hours

I mean if the occupation paid more, more people would probably go into with the capability of previously thought to be deserving of higher earning occupations and eventually replace those choosing to work as teachers now

I'm sure it's not an easy job and I'm sure some people legit put in a ton of extra time because they're dedicated to it

That being said I know several teachers who made it to happy hour at the bar well before I ever did
