Probably already posted. You've probably seen the post circulating. Can't hurt to post again.

Why can't you talk in the video?

Most people are just annoying

they should be doing this anyway.
(this is presumably helping people that did not have flood insurance)

FEMA is part of the government. The government has, over the past 8 years, started believing that anyone talking is lying...unless the last name is Clinton.

Because no one wants to hear someone say "Oh My God!" 50 times.

Bad info my friend. I am a fema inspector even though I haven't done it in a while. FEMA doesn't give a shite what type of tile, carpet, tv or whatever else you have. You think because you have a 70" tv that they will give a shite? The government has set prices for every little thing like a lightswitch or whatever is a set price. Everyone gets the same amounts for the same type stuff. Flooring is flooring no matter what type you have. They only have one price for each thing. It's already set.

Well ok, Mr Bad News Bobby. How about the rest of what he helpfully offered? do you have anything positive to say?

I take that back. Not bad advice but fema doesn't care.

But, what if you talk on the video? They gonna nullify everything, right?

How will any of this help I have no idea. Glad I didn't do any of that after Katrina.

Give us some advice.
We really need you NOLA folks with experience to give some do's and don'ts of dealing with flood recovery. Most of the effected people here have no experience dealing with any type of insurance claim.

I live in Mississippi and did not have flood insurance. My home insurance gave us $4200 to repair the roof and I took out $190,000 SBA loan to fix my shite. The government gave us a $150,000 grant and I pay $168/mo for 30 years on the rest. IDK, lived in FEMA camper in my front yard for 8 months. That's all I remember.

There's no "advice" that will get you anything special. Several hundred adjusters will descend upon the area with computer coded checklists and you'll get what you get and, perhaps if you push back a bit harder, a bit more (although, you may have to pay a portion to your lawyer, if you think you need him/her to do your pushing).
If you talk on the video, though ...

I don't mean advice on how to arse rape fedgov into buying you a new mansion. Just advice on how to not frick yourself by doing something wrong like tearing out something you shouldn't have.

If people don't have flood insurance, and FEMA helps them anyway, then why have flood insurance to begin with? Just curious.

What I gathered from this is document everything. To the point where you itemize everything it can't hurt and at the very least it could maybe help expedite the process

Fema may give people who don't have flood insurance a certain amount but most likely what you will get is a very low interest loan to repair/replace as the user stated above got a $150k loan and only has to pay like $170 a month

Flood insurance max payout is $250,000. With no insurance it's been said that fema will handout 33,000. Then the uninsured homeowner has to take out larger low interest loans.

Is Xactimate still the industry standard? I used it a lot after Rita for repair work and I use XactRPM now for bank work.
It's pretty fair but there are some things it is off on. For example, I know right now privacy fencing in it is like $12 PLF when it should really be $17+. In short, just look your estimate over closely and make sure you are getting fair market value because the software isn't the end all.
Also, it works by zip code so some areas get more for the exact same things though I am not sure that will matter in this as everything is close by. It matters state to state, though.
