This is Emerald Lake in the Canadian Rockies.

All the debris slopes at the bottom of the mountains, the debris that makes up the valley fill. In some places trees stabilize it, where there aren't trees there may not be soil, just rocks ready to go further down the hills.
One of the landscape shots shows the tops of the mountains: the trees are separated by areas of grass- that look a lot like avalanche tracks.
