I have never been in an accident while I was driving but after watching videos on /r/idiotsincars, I know I've just been incredibly lucky.

I think I'm a pretty good driver but I realize there are situations that could come up where I would have literally no time to react in order to avoid them.

I’m sorry to hear this. Thousands of people are killed in traffic accidents every year. I would argue that almost all of them are preventable. Slow down and pay attention, drivers.

Seat belts really do save lives, so wear them people! I got in a wreck and it was unavoidable. Guy turned in front of me at the very last second and I hardly had time to hit my brakes and was going at least 55-60 before he turned. In the police report it said I spun around a few times in my car and he was in a truck. I had my seat belt on and was pretty much unharmed, but he had no seat belt on and was laying across his seat unconscious and breathing real heavy. I rode in the ambulance with him and I'm not sure if he ever came too but I'm pretty sure he survived it. I always buckle up now.

Im glad youre ok. That is such a scary feeling. Ive never been in a wreck. But the closest I have been I feel like was when I was trying to pass up this 18 wheeler. I was passing on the left, next thing you know he started switching into my lane with no use of blinkers. I immediately in a panic swerved to the left. Im lucky there was enouhh room on yhe left shoulder for my entire car to fit. Idk if swerving was the right, but it scared the mess out of me. I dont know if the truck ever even saw me.

Thankfully, nothing happened, but that had me so shook. Maybe closest Ive came to a wreck. That truck was inches from hitting me.

It's frustrating to hear how many people die from simply not buckling up. Such a simple thing to do, and yet, people die every day from getting ejected.

I was a passenger in a small truck that my cousin was driving. I took my seat belt off to reach for something on the floorboard and he was watching me instead of the road. The truck flipped three times and I was ejected out the back window. Truck landed on its wheels and I found myself in the bed of the truck with only 1 small cut on my arm. Incredibly lucky.

Dang dude not many walk away with that story! i guess it wasnt your time. Ive had a few accidents in my day and was lucky to walk away. In one i toke a left turn into a gas station only to have a guy driving with no lights on plow into while turning. My only words right before impact was OH shite ! I often think how many times that is said right before an accident happens. I did have my seat belt on though and some serious bruising but better bruised than dead.

I’ve been in three wreck caused by Spanish speaking drivers who couldn’t follow basic driving rules like “don’t run a red light”. You’ve been lucky til now.

Yeah, that was me. When EMS approached me, I told them to go take care of that lady and her children first. I had no real injuries, that I was aware of. I’m sure my adrenaline masked a lot of pain right after the accident. I’m sore as hell today though.

I got in a fender bender when I was 18 that was my fault. I'm pretty cautious now because I absolutely hated the feeling of not being in control. Accident wasn't terrible, but it is scary.

Cut to 15 years later. I've never had another accident that's my fault, but I've since been hit by someone else on 6 different occasions. Most were trivial. But one put me in the hospital overnight. I had kind of gotten over that and was even cycling on rural roads just trusting drivers. Last one totaled a year old Lexus on one of the roads I rode my bike on. Watched a guy looking down as he plowed into me at 45 mph while I was at a stop. I'm done having faith in people. I'm constantly on the defensive. Definitely not riding my bike unless it's closed course races. It can happen just like that. Seatbelts are a must. People are just bad at driving.

Your version.

They might secretly have another one.

On what grounds? They were at fault.

Glad to see you are alright. The amount of mental strain caused by wrecks is never fun. I have been in two wrecks while I was driving, both times being rear ended by college girls. The most recent time lead to my car getting totaled. Dealing with the insurance companies is a blast too...

I can't fathom how so many people suck at driving. And really, a lot of people should not be at the wheel unfortunately. 25 years without a wreck is pretty damn impressive though.
