Been driving for 25 years and had my first accident today...

Crash at Navarro and Zac Lentz
I’ve been a licensed driver since the age of 15. I’ve driven through some of the largest cities in the country and I’ve never been involved in a vehicle accident. That changed today. When they tell you that it happens quick and you don’t have time to react, that’s exactly how it happens.
Always wear your seatbelts. Put your phones down and don’t drive distracted. If you’re running late, you’re running late. Don’t speed to try and make it on time. Tell the ones that you love that you love them every chance you get. You just never know when you’re going to take your last breath. Today wasn’t my time to go, but it very well could have been. Had I proceeded through that intersection :01 sooner, it could have been a sad day for my family. Please keep the family of this 16 year old in your prayers.

thats gotta be hell on a mother not only losing a son but also being responsible.

I can’t imagine. As a father of four myself, to know that I was even involved in this accident has me sick to my stomach.

I would submit that 1 and 3/4 people died in that accident. I know mothers that have lost young children. They are forever changed.

Yep, I still have flashbacks from mine. My world changed in a fraction of a second.

It was a silver blur and a crash. No time to react.

I got caught in a dust storm yesterday with zero visibility on a 55 mph road.
Braking while you have a semi on your arse, multiple vehicles stopped on each shoulder, and headlights dead ahead with nothing but dirt in your windshield is pretty fricking terrifying.
Thank God there were no accidents.
Sorry OP for what you experienced, that can happen anytime any day.

Were they speeding or just ran the red light at normal speed?

I honestly have no idea. I didn’t see her at all as I looked before I began to drive through the intersection.

Sorry you had to go through that and even sadder for the family of the child. As a parent it is very scary when your kids start driving and you are correct... hug them daily and preach safety 24/7 as an accident happens in less than a blink of an eye.
My daughter had a wreck a few months ago and I tell you it was so scary rushing to to he scene of that accident. Thank God for airbags and that the car, while totaled, protected her and her friend. I can buy another car but I only have the one daughter.

Why would I listen to you about how to drive, you just got into a wreck?

It really does happen in the blink of an eye. A while back a car just completely bulldozed through a red light at a intersection and hit my car on the passenger side which flipped me over. Luckily I didn't get a single scratch. No matter how good a driver you are, there are others out there that have no regard and are out of control

Wait until you hit a deer head-on while doing 73 mph at five-thirty in the morning when it's raining. Worst part, air bag deployed and with it being 45 degrees outside my window was up and I couldn't see a damn thing from the powder. Took me a couple of seconds to come back to earth and rolled the window down and stuck my head out the window so I could see while coming to a stop. Totalled out my truck.

Damn that sucks. Yeah hitting a deer on the highway is one of my fears

Glad you're okay.
Nice truck, too.

Such a sad story, hate to see that for that family.
I can relate to others in this thread, as my life was forever changed when I was 19 and got hit head on by a drunk driver out by LSU. Luckily, I had my seatbelt on, but I still got hurt pretty bad.
That accident introduced me to legal pain pills, and 13 years ago, it was like the wild west for "pain management" clinics. I started doctor shopping and eventually the legal turned to illegal and the pain pills turned to me snorting heroin.
I've been sober now for a while and although I do kind of feel cheated by the environment of dirty doctors back then, I don't blame anyone but myself. Because at the end of the day, I loved the way I felt taking opiates. However, I do always wonder what my life would be like today if that had never happened. It took 10 years of my life away and at the time, for a 19 year old, I was doing pretty well.
So yea, I completely understand how life can change in the fraction of a second. It not only changes the persons directly involved, but their families as well.

Glad you made it through unscathed...physically. I’ve been in a few minor accidents and thoughts of each still occasionally go through my head.
Obligatory OT Question:
What kind of truck nuts you got on that rig, baw?

Lol, man...I needed that laugh this morning. To answer the question, no truck nuts for this baw.
