How? How do you let
Yourself get this physically weak?

Well, I haven't lifted since I got out of the army and that was 24 years ago. Age, not working out and losing a lot of weight are the reasons why I can't put up 205 right now. I don't feel like I am physically weak by any metric but I am also not in the best of shape either.

This may surprise you but not every man can lift over 200 pounds. Even ones that are in shape. When I was 19 yrs old and in the army I was in as good a shape as I could reasonably be in and I could only bench 205. I am tall and lanky and just wasn't born with the frame to hold a lot of muscle mass. I wasn't weak. I did really well on the pt test. Now even when I lifted, it wasn't to try to rack up an impressive bench press. It was more stamina training than anything and a little lifting mixed in. Push ups and sit ups were my thing and the army's thing too. Took martial arts for 10 years prior to joining the military and only did pushups.

Word. I fricked up my shoulder about 6 months ago so I haven't been lifting as heavy as I used to. Been maintaining mostly.

I honestly have no idea what my max is. I don't do flat bench anymore though, just incline.

My first lift back in the gym when they open is going to be awful.

Good thing is we’ll all be weak together

Except for those home gym overachievers but some of them will probably stay in their home gyms

I honestly don't know mine either, but I did 225x3 recently so I assume I could get 245 up once

If one cannot bench 315, they’d a pussy. I’ve been moving that since 20 years old

Weigh 260ish last time I lifted heavy on bench I got 375 for 3.

No reason to lift even that heavy anymore unless you’re getting paid in directly or directly to workout

6', 200lbs, 39 years old

6 reps of 195. Calculated max of 234.

Most I've benched in last two years is 250 for a single and 225 for 4 or 5, I don't remember which.

Somewhere between novice and intermediate.

230

Pre-Rona I could do 315 x 8 for 3 sets. Most I’ve ever done was 345 x 3. I don’t max, because there isn’t really a point.

Just hoping when the gym opens, I can push 300 x 6 or so for sets and work my way back up

Body weight 240.

Bench - what is more than intermediate? I’m 50 and can still bench well over my body weight.

Based on what I have observed at this gym, this is absolutely true. By working at it a bit most men should be able to get there. But among those who don't regularly work out, many could not get to 200.

Don't be jealous. And the 200 is only at night. 195 in the morning.

And I just did 205x6, inspired by this thread.

I weigh between 225 and 230, when I took time off from gym several months ago due to working 7 days/wk 12 hrs/day I could push 315 lbs 4-6 times on last set.
Guessing that would be better than "intermediate".
