All of our holiday traditions are rooted in paganism. Pagan festivals were based on the wheel of the year, following the suns cycles and changing seasons and certain agricultural milestones. The pagan rituals were incorporated into Christian holidays when Christianity was introduced in Europe
Trick or treat and wearing costumes on Halloween came from All Hallows Eve which was the Celtic harvest festival Samhain.
Christmas trees, mistletoe, etc were all pagan.
Easter eggs, Easter bunny, all pagan.
Mardi Gras originated from pagan spring fertility rites
