Is he from a certain part of Louisiana that says it that way

yes, he's from down the bayou, and IME, people that say bye-you are rarely actually close to bayous.

I can almost see the bye-you from my front door, and grew up near another bye-you.

What do expect from a alcoholic, pill head from Alabama who sounds like 2 dogs fricking when he sings.

Most likely

That’s not right. My experience is that this seems to be an east/west difference. Closer to talking like a yat, you say by-yuh. Everybody I grew up with says by-you, there are a few in the Laayette area. I grew up between Lafayette and Scott, we used to call the Vermillion River Bayou Vermillion. My mom’s family is from vermillion parish, they all say by-you and they have lots of them. My wife’s family all says by-you. They grew up right along the Bayou Teche in Arnaudville.

And the folks that say by-yuh seem to emphasize the first syllable while by-you often emphasize the last.

The only wrong answer here is anyone who says either pronunciation indicates not being Cajun. These are regional dialectical differences, that is all.

If you ran into someone who pronounced bayou as by-yah that is because he was from "donna by-yah." That is anywhere down LA-1, or LA 308 along Bayou Lafourche from Donaldsonville, to Golden Meddow. But most likely between Donaldsonville, and Houma. That is because south of Houma, it's hard to understand anything they say.

ETA: The by-yah, or da bay-yah is always "Bayou Lafourche."

I'm from NELA and say by-you. There is a difference though. I say it that way if it is first in the name, like Bayou Lafourche. If it comes on the end, I say by, like Cow Bayou.

Eta: I have no idea why I do this. Just always have

Living on the bayou all my life, the use of both is what I do, as well as most of the people I talk to. By-you is used when referring to a specific bayou. By-Yuh or by-yah is used when saying something like “I just saw a snake in the by-yah”. Not sure how that came to be but is typical around here.
