re: Baton Rouge’s own Jimmy Swaggart needs our prayers

You’re right, but conversely, men of God are not God, but those in need of a savior and forgiveness, as are you and me, and if we don’t forgive men of their sins, will we be forgiven of ours?
He asked for forgiveness for playing around with dirty whores on multiple occasions because he was caught and exposed by local media. He has never admitted he is a greedy corrupt sheister who has preyed on elderly gullible people all of his life and stolen in the name of GOD..... A much bigger sin than nutting in a coffee cup near a hairy broad in a seedy motel.
IMHO

I get that asking for prayer in these situations is kind of standard, but when someone’s lived a full, long life, I’m not always sure what exactly we’re praying for, immortality?
Immortality? Not the way your thinking of it.
Death and passing is difficult on even an old person, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Some of us have faith in an afterlife, but even then, there are questions. Will there be a judgement day? As Christians, its pretty universally believed that there will be.
But besides the dying person themselves, death is difficult on the family. And maybe difficult is not the best or fullest word to use, especially for someone who’s lived a full life at 90. Maybe significant, or a focus point, is a better way to understand it for the living family and friends of who remain.
Prayers don’t have to be specifically articulated and well understood. God understands the “groanings” of our heart, the longing and searching, the unspoken supplications.
Have faith in the power of God the Father, and of our advocate, the Holy Spirit, and pray always.

I’d suggest reading scripture to come to grips with just how dirty and sinful we all are, and how much we all need a savior.
Jesus said that the Father did not send Him into the world to condemn the world, but that through Him, the world might be saved. That is applicable to all who would believe upon Him for their salvation alone and accept the unmerited gift of salvation offered mankind. We don’t connect with God through self righteousness. We only do so when we realize our need for Him after we come to the realization of just how unworthy we are in our own righteousness, and rely upon Him instead. This applies to every single one of us. Nobody earns anything here, and man’s true folly is in thinking it plays a part.

I thought he died a long time ago.

I saw him checking his mail out in front of his estate on Highland Road a few weeks ago. Afternoon traffic backs up pretty bad out in front of his house.
I call it an "estate" because it's a pretty large piece of property.

One thing I’ll say about Jimmy is that man could play a piano. Incredibly talented, up there with the all-time greats. Never got his recognition because of his career choice but that man could play.

Has the value of the land on Bluebonnet peaked if they decide to sell?

When he built that house he currently lives in on Highland road he put in a very custom swimming pool, and his wife came home from a trip after it was completely done and said she hated the shape of it and made the contractor rip it out of the ground. She also made the crew of a company that did in ground wells cut all their long hair on site with a knife (all they had) before she would allow them to finish the job that they had come to do on that same property.
Didn't Jesus have long hair?
I know this because we were building in the same area and used both contractors and heard the stories separately....
Awesome family.

I'm not a fan of preachers who use offerings to live in luxury.
In all fairness, back in the day, Swaggart bought all the land that is now Bluebonnet. He made bank on selling off all that commercial land when Baton Rouge started moving that way.

If I'm not mistaken, Swaggart at one time owned the land that is now the Mall of Louisiana, and Perkins Rowe.

Yep, incredibly talented family.
Jimmy had a great voice too.

However, with that said, IMO, Jimmy should have stepped down from any leadership position once he was caught with a hooker the second time. It's pretty hard to tell others how to live their lives when he failed so visibly not once, but twice.

Jerry Lee didn’t just play piano…. He pounded it.

Jerry Lee & Jimmy did an album together right before Jerry Lee died, he could barely play but it was nice they were able to do that before it was too late.

That clip will never stop being funny, especially in light of what the hooker said he was into.
